Maryland’s monster Class of 2014 added some size today, with the verbal of 7’1 Georgia Center Trayvon Reed. Reed joins fellow verbals Jared Nickens, Romelo Trimble, and Dion Wiley as future Terps.

(Discuss the addition of Reed, and the rest of the ’14 Class on the BSL Board here.)

Reed’s rankings by recruiting services:

ESPN: 4 stars, 84th overall
247 Sports: 4 stars, 67th overall
Scout: 4 stars, position rank 12th overall
Rivals: 4 stars, 68th overall

With Reed, currently the 2014-15 Terps look like*
Guards:
Faust (Sr) Allen (Jr), Peters (Soph), Trimble (Freshman), Wiley (Freshman)
Wings: Wells (Sr), Layman (Jr), Nickens (Freshman)
Bigs: Smotrycz (Sr), Cleare (Jr), Mitchell (Jr), Dodd (Soph), Reed (Freshman)

Terrapin Station added a great scouting report of Reed, which you can find here.

Jeff Ermann from Inside MD Sports reports that even with Reed, MD will continue to pursue Chinanu Onuaku. Perhaps the MD coaching staff is anticipating a departure?

A true big who can run the court, and shot-block; should work well with fellow bigs Shaq Cleare, and Charles Mitchell. Reed provides something that is currently lacking with MD’s bigs. Clearly though, he is going to have to hit the weights, and develop his offensive game.

Maryland is well positioned to do immediate damage in their first year of Big Ten play (’14-’15).
