MASN’s Roch Kubatko reported the O’s have resigned Cesear Izturis to a one year-deal.

Other reports have indicated the contract is for $1.5M. As much as I have complained about Izturis over the past two years as a starter, I have no problem with this move.

As I pointed out yesterday, Hardy’s games played over the past three years have been 147 in 2008, 115 in 2009, and 101 in 2010. The resigning of Izturis is indication the O’s have at-least some concern of Hardy’s ability to stay healthy during a 162 game season, and that they want a capable defensive backup available for extended playing time if necessary. I would also argue that this is indication the organization is not confident in Andino’s ability to be that player, which is understandable after his 30 errors with AAA Norfolk in 2010.

I’m sure Harris, Andino, and Izturis will all get a look during the Spring, but Izturis is probably now the heavy favorite to come north with the team as the utility infielder.
