One of the more versatile players in the Terps’ Class of 2013, Burkett is a borderline 3-star recruit who can play weak-side defensive end or linebacker at the next level. He originally committed to Florida International when they offered him a scholarship, but after his official visit to College Park he decided to switch his commitment in order to play for the Terrapins.

Burkett is one of three Florida recruits in the Terps’ Class of 2013. 4-star CB Will Likely III committed to Maryland just weeks before Burkett switched his commitment to the Terps, and 3-star DT Kingsley Opara committed to Maryland in July. Randy Edsall and his staff started going after Burkett after Florida International fired head coach Mario Cristobal in December.

Burkett will most likely play linebacker for the Terps in Brian Stewart’s 3-4 scheme. Unless he plans on bulking up a lot to play defensive end, he will be competing for playing time with incoming freshmen Yannick Ngakoue and Derrick Hayward.
