FanGraphs: Top 15 Prospects

All we heard before the draft was that there was '0% chance' of Josh Bell signing with an MLB team. Pittsburgh really deserves credit for having been willing to select him, and follow that up with the cash necessary to get him to sign.

Pittsburgh has struggled for so long. Hopefully for them (and baseball in general) they will be able to get Cole, and Taillon to the Majors together (with health and productivity as well).

Bedard just injured himself in the 2nd inning against the Nats. Threw a routine pitch and then came up wincing and stretching his sides. Oblique?

No luck at all.

Bedard: 2-4, 2.57 era, 35 ip, 34 hits, 1 hr, 14 bb's, 37 k's, .682 OPS against, 0.71 G/F

The guy is 33 years old, and has won just 58 games. Shame what injuries have done to his career.

Cole, Taillon, and Appel could be a fun trio to watch long-term.

They could be a fun rotation to watch next season in the minors if PIT got crazy.

Best commentary I saw was from Camden Depot -- under the old system, Pirates wouldn't have drafted him but under that same system, they would've signed him. So for anyone who criticizes the new system as it's not doing what it is designed to do, it's important to remember that.

I figured that he was going to get traded, but I didn't think he would get traded to the Pirates. Good for Pittsburgh. Trying to be more aggressive this year.

Good for them (depending on what they gave up). Bedard, McDonald, Burnett, Rodriguez, Correia is a pretty good staff.

Offense is still poor, 23rd overall in runs, 28th in obp, 16th in slugging.

A very good series to keep an eye on in the NL this weekend - Buccos @ Reds for 3 games, with Pittsburgh trailing Cincy by 3.5 games entering the series.

Seriously, good for him. It's just a shame that he felt he couldn't do so earlier, due to the way he thought people within the sport might react.

Until an ACTIVE player in one of the four major sports comes out, I don't really think it's a big deal. I've heard from a baseball insider that there are 3-4 baseball players(might be minor leaguers) who are gay, but haven't come out.

Just based on the odds, I would guarantee that it's more than that--especially including the minor leagues. I do agree with you to a certain point, but I feel that every time someone does come out we come closer to the day that it truly, honestly will not matter.
