Well, we were talking about good programs, so I guess I shouldn't have brought up the Terps. :)

Ouch.

Also, it's why the Terps went B1G--better competition will get the best out of them. You'll see. MD's coming.

Hilarious.

Louisville is definitely going to keep up the academic standards. Towson wasn't willing to go to I-A in football, and Arizona State is too far west, so they had to go to the next-best choice.
Look, Louisville has a great basketball program and a good football program. You can make a case the you'd rather have them, especially if you ignore economics and academics. However, Maryland is a very desirable school to have in a conference and the ACC and its fans generally are not happy with losing the Terps. Several other schools would have been chosen before MD to make way for Louisville if that was a choice.

In all seriousness....they should be coming.

MD should be a top 20 program.

B10 has the superior coaches right now and that's the difference between the 2 conferences.

Maryland's been coming since 2002...

Rob is right. The program has the capabilities of being a top 20 program. Great conference, great history, fantastic recruiting area. Just need all the pieces to click. One of those is the right coaching.

Agree with all that.

I think they are on the cusp... but this year is a wild card. I have no idea what to expect given all the turnover, and despite all that, still having a lot of really good talent next year, although inexperienced.

Pretty much agree with Chip's top 5. I think the Big East will have a similar season to the inaugural one (which is disappointing in truth): depth from 1-10, but not enough elite-level teams.

Villanova should run away with the conference, as they return 4 starters.

I think Xavier, Georgetown, and Providence will compete for the next 3 spots, as all three teams return key players and have exciting, impact freshman coming in.

Next tier would be St. John's, Butler, Seton Hall, and Marquette. I could totally see them playing up and fighting for a top-half finish in the Big East, but all of these teams have issues and holes to work out. St. John's has all the talent in the world but they cannot get it to mesh. Butler is turning it around with solid transfers but I still think they are a year or two away from competing. Seton Hall will rely on big man Isaiah Whitehead. And Marquette is under the new Wojo era.

At the bottom of the league should be Creighton and DePaul (again). Creighton did have some success on the transfer wire this off-season, but they just lose so much from the 2014 graduating class. DePaul is DePaul...I'm still surprised Purnell managed to not get fired after this season.

The good news for the conference is that the future is bright. Four teams (GTown, X, Seton Hall, and Prov) have Top 25 recruiting classes coming in 2014, according to Scout.

And we are glad the Terps are gone...we get to bring in a real team.

But why is this a dumb idea?

You move it to prime time, where you will have a bigger audience.

Now, you have day games on the weekend, when people are out doing stuff.

I'm not convinced Saturday nights draw a bigger audience than Sunday afternoon. And while it's all about TV nowadays, it sucks for fans who travel to attend the tournament. If you want to go in person Wed-Sun>>>>Tue-Sat. But yeah, ESPN had a major, if not a full say, in this. They wanted something to fill the time slot they lost with the Big East Final.

ESPNTop 50 College Hoops Coaches: Nos. 50-25

I have a hard time leaving Kevin Stallings/Bruce Pearl off this list entirely. Like any other "list" there's going to be some questionable calls, I'll be interested to see the top 25. I mean you know who it's going to be at this point, just a matter of the order.

24-19

No. 24: Bob McKillop, Davidson

No. 23: Greg McDermott, Creighton

No. 22: Tommy Amaker, Harvard

No. 21: Larry Brown, SMU

No. 20: Thad Matta, Ohio State

No. 19: Jay Wright, Villanova

I have a hard time putting Larry Brown up there, I mean if were just talking about a coach he should clearly by in the top 10. However, I have a hard time giving him credit for UCLA/KU, since that was 25+ years ago.

Greg McDermott on the best list? Interesting

He was terrible at Iowa State, and won some at Creighton with his son being one of the best players in the country. I'll be curious to see how he does moving forward.

In the 50-25 article, it states at the beginning...

Which coaches are doing the best job right now?

I have a hard time putting Larry Brown for "right now" actually. If they disregarded what he did in the NBA/in the 80s at UCLA/KU, would he be so high?

Gotcha.

He's doing wonders at SMU..can't really deny that.

I agree there, just think top 25 is too high since he still hasn't made the Tourney. If you want to go with his entire career, he's easily top 10, maybe top 5.

No question.

ESPNGeorgetown-Cuse rivalry to resume

A longstanding rivalry put on hold for a few years will make a return in the 2015-16 season, as Georgetown and Syracuse announced Tuesday that they will play a four-year home-and-home series.
