Looks like it's something like $24M per year during the 7 years of the contract, and $11M per year for the 7 years after that.

Source: The deferrals in Strasburg's contract are very similar to the deferrals in Max Scherzer's current deal. Scherzer's will be fully paid out in the seven years after it ends (at a rate of $15 million a year). Strasburg's deferrals are around $80 mil in a similar time frame.

If I were the Nats, I would have kept Rendon, instead.

I don't know. Pitching is much harder to come by.

The Nats have signed 35-year old Will Harris to a 3 year/$24M contract to work their 8th innings. Harris served up the game 7 winning hit to Howie Kendrick. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

I mean what could go wrong with signing a 35 year old RP to a 3 year deal worth $8m per? sound logic.

They also signed Starlin Castro to a two year, $12 million deal.

And our old friend David Hernandez.

With all these deals, they probably could've easily afforded to retain Rendon. That's such a huge loss.
