The Nats problems goes back to their tradition of firing (Baker, Williams) and not hiring managers (Bud Black). Management under-valued the job..

Baker was a questionable move, but I get that they feel they had to shake something up and that's easier than trading a big part of the team. Williams I know they wanted a younger, tough nosed guy who they thought Harper would respect and keep things in line with a growing clubhouse.

Black is a great coach that a lot of teams missed the boat on.

Clubhouse chemistry is a tough thing, and right now they have to decide if luxury tax, or a bullpen that actually works is a bigger deal. Then they can worry about the offense and youth developing. But they'd better do it before more people hit FA.

The Nats are going to wear throwback Expos uniforms the weekend after July 4th...have they worn them before or is this reminding the MLB and Montreal that they have the rights to the Expos?

Craig Calcaterra was joking today about how this might annoy the Rays, muscling in on their turf.

The Nationals are having a lot of fun, example 459: The ballpark was doing Simba cam and parents held up their babies in the crowd. So Victor Robles held up Adam Eaton by the dugout steps and the place cheered.

Don't ever let Jon Taylor (the man who authored that piece) come anywhere near a front office for any team.

Guess it's a good thing they didn't punt :-P

They had a $200M OD AAV payroll, they spend money. No reason to think they won't be the highest bidder. But he's still a big injury risk IMO.

I don’t disagree with you...do wonder if he wants to go home to SD though. (Assuming SD wants to spend on him)

It was a genius year when the only real needle-mover is Cole, and someone else will be out there willing to spend $30m a year.

The first thought I had was SD too, but he was willing to extend here once already, so must not HATE it here. I have been predicting ANA for Cole, and if they lose out to the NYY, could be a good spot for SS to land. They have to make up some talent gap in that rotation to match their position players, and their system is pretty bare in pitching. They will need to sign a big name, and probably trade one of those young up and coming OF guys for someone's pitching prospect.
