Yeah, on the whole they have nothing to do with being good... just being OK will do it... except for the big ones, they're nothing but  programming content for ESPN and near-XMAS vacations for alumni... 

 

Right, which is why I'm fine with it and don't understand why some people get their panties in a wad over it. So mediocre teams get the reward of an extra game at the end of the season that in the past they wouldn't have....big whoop. No one is saying it should be appointment viewing for all. And it's not like ESPN is giving the deep-six to more compelling programming just to show those games.

I think they should at least get their TV-tech guys to take that gizmo they have that superimposes 1st-down lines on the field and use it to superimpose fans in the stands... because it makes a bowl game feel very uncelebratory when it looks like just 5,000 people there with everybody else wearing empty-seat suits....
