New logo for MLS, I like it.  The old one is on the left.  Here's a link to the story as well

Someone was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to do what I can do in MS Paint in 10 minutes.

I hate it.

You all need to read what each part of the crest means: http://www.mlssoccer.com/NEXT

I'm pretty sure the Perimeter is what Atlanta Silverbacks players will get lost on before games, but whatever.

Not the biggest fan, especially that stupid "kickstand," and the changing of the colors to fit each club. (I didn't like when MLB did it, either.) A bit too minimal, needs a little something.

Pokemon mixed with NFL logos:

I know most of you may not have been the Pokemon generation, but this was pretty cool to see.

EDIT: Unfortunately, most of these look like the newer pokemon which I never really followed.

From that article...

A rebranding plan for Army athletics could mean the end of "Black Knights" as an official team name as early as next spring.

"We really want to make sure we have something that identifies regionally, nationally and internationally," Army athletic director Boo Corrigan told the (Middletown, New York) Times Herald-Record last week. He didn't speculate on possible alternatives.

Now, what does this really mean?  Personally, I don't really care... but it just seems like a goofy thing to do for no apparent reason.  I don't see how it will make any positive difference of any kind to anybody.  Does anybody like or dislike Army because of their team's name?

It's just like the BS the Tennessee guy put out in the story discussing ending "Lady" Vols.

But what is the nature of said BS?

Why are they doing it?

Because everyone else is, and they want to sell more merchandise.

They're gonna change the freakin' name of the team just to sell more t-shirts?  Really?

I understand about changing the logo for the same-name team... I'm not crazy about it, but I understand it, especially of the logo being changed is nothing special... but changing the name of the team?  This is the same thing as the O's changing their name back to the Browns during the now-ended period of suckitude..

p.s.  Is there any possible team name that's more dreary than Browns?  EDIT:  Yes!  Beiges.

That's not really a good comparison, because as the article points out officially being the "Black Knights" is a relatively recent thing. It's as though Maryland was being alternately called "Terrapins" and "Old Liners" (as they were until the 1930s) until 2000, then choosing the Terrapin name as the official one. Or using both "Yellowjackets" and "Ramblin' Wrecks" for Georgia Tech and eventually choosing one.

And yes, it is "to sell a few t-shirts". And jerseys. And bumper stickers. And anything else you can slap a name onto.

They actually have a bigger possible market than most schools, because they have pretty much the entire US Army which could be customers.

Well, when you put it like that...

HOWEVER... there is not now, nor has their ever been, a sports entity known as the "Ramblin' Wrecks"... I suspect you are confusing them with *the* Ramblin' Wreck, which is both a singular and a plural... and, yes, there was some discussion a few years ago about making that the official team name...

HOWEVER #2:  I never, ever, ever heard the Twerps referred to as the Old Liners... the official date has nothing to do with the actual usage date... plus, I bet regular people never called them that, I bet it was just a newspaper guy who thought he was being clever...

1. I got that off Wikipedia, so grain of salt and all that. Plus, I was using it as a hypothetical, not that people called GT that.

2. You're old, but not "aware of college nicknames in the '30s" old ;) And yes, the Terrapins name wasn't made official until the '30s. I'm pretty sure there was a period at the turn-of-the-century, while still the MD Agricultural College, when they were the Aggies, too.

Until you can find some dead guy with that on his tombstone, I'm still not buying it...
