Giants lost a rain-shortened game in Chicago last night, 2-0 after 4 1/2 innings. They are protesting it to have it be a suspended game instead, and I think they've got a good argument. There was only about a 15 minute rainstorm, but the Cubs grounds crew had trouble with the tarp and then couldn't get the field playable after the storm ended. From the rule book:
(3) Light failure or malfunction of a mechanical field device under control of the home club. (Mechanical field device shall include automatic tarpaulin or water removal equipment)
Should be interesting to see what happens. I can't remember the last time that a protest was upheld and the game resumed or changed from what was originally called.
