August 21 is still going to be Hunter Pence bobblehead night in Philly, though.

Then again, maybe the finished product will come out like the infamous Brian Roberts ones and they can call it "Dominic Brown Bobblehead Night"...

Buster Posey is having an incredible second half, to the tune of a 1.279 OPS (.441/.505/.774), not including another hr today.

Will be really interesting to see what happens with Melky in FA. Will be the first big test of a free agent coming off of a major suspension.

Yes, it will be interesting... I imagine he'll get half of what he would have. Maybe 3/18 or 3/24?

His market will most surely plummet - but to what extent?

This is from the drug test in July, right?

My guess is the Giants offer arbitration and he ends up taking it to re-establish his value.

Jon Heyman estimated that it will cost him $50 million.

50 games is better than what it was when Palmeiro got suspended (think it was 15?)... thinking they need to up to atleast 100 games not a season. I know it's been suggested that the 2nd suspension should be a ban. I'd make it 2 years, then the 3rd one could be the "strikeout." The bigger deterrent the less likely, you'll see someone do it IMO.

That would be my guess as well. If not, he might not be a bad one year investment.

I like that Melky at least admitted it and took responsibility, rather than claim it was a bogus test or something he took accidentally.

"My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used," Cabrera said in a statement released by the union. "I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and I will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down."

Remember this from back on July 28, 2012?

Giants beat writer apologizes to Melky Cabrera about PED rumor

Here’s something you don’t see every day: a writer apologizing to a player for giving life to a rumor of PED usage.

You see, there was a nasty rumor flying around on Twitter that Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera had tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com decided to ask Cabrera about it. Cabrera categorically denied the rumors, saying MLB hasn’t informed him or the players union about a positive test. He even contacted his agent to make sure. Baggarly then decided to pass along word of Cabrera’s denial. However, Baggarly later had regrets of acknowledging the rumor in the first place and issued a public apology to Cabrera.

Yep i'll give that to him and he did so right away instead of doing a TV special or book deal about it.

Oops, maybe not.

Melky Cabrera created a fake website in part of a ploy to get out of his 50-game suspension. The website was part of the presentation Cabrera and his representatives made to MLB and the players’ union before the league officially charged him with a doping violation.

In my opinion, MLB should be increasing his suspension.

Yep, this is worse than any denial or anything other than that.

If this is proven to be true, MLB should up the suspension to a full season. Absolutely disgraceful from Cabrera. The cover-up is always worse than the crime, and if MLB lets this slide their entire testing program will be seen as a complete joke.
