What do you like to drink with your meal?

Wine. Especially Beaujolais Nouveau which is perfect for a Thanksgiving meal.

Well since we are in between homes at the moment we aren't going to have the usual big Thanksgiving dinner. However it is going to be a very special day.

My youngest son has been transferred back to Idaho so will be coming up tonight after work. Then tomorrow morning we will go chase ducks....first time we have been hunting together in I think 6 years! Then were going to eat munchies and watch football and for dinner we are having his favorite pizza!  And I'll probably have a PBR or two.

So much to be thakful for! So glad to have found this awesome site and to be able to participate.

And mostly thankful for all my family and friends and to have the health and time to be able to hang with them. And I would be especially thankful this year if my builder would hurry up and finish our house so we can get moved over and get out of Idaho before we have a foot of snow and/or its -20!!!

Cheers all!!

Very cool Steve. Where are you relocating to again?

When we retired we bought a home down on the Gulf about 50 minutes east of New Orleans but we kept our home in Idaho. This summer we sold our Idaho home and are having a smaller townhome built. So we still will go back and forth just no need for the big house we had up here.

Aren't you gonna eat the ducks?

Yes. I have a guy that I used to work with that can't hunt anymore so I give him a bunch of them. But the rest we eat (have a really great shishkabob recipe) and we make some into pepperoni sticks and suasages. None of them go to waste.....well unless I screw up and shoot a merganser.....lol

The only curveball in the regular roasting process is getting the white meat and dark meat to both be cooked correctly, because the white meat needs to get to only about 165 while the dark meat needs to get up to 185 to be cooked through.  Icing down the breasts while letting the thighs come to room temperature on the counter before roasting helps, and is also a fun after dinner activity depending on who you're cooking with.

Hmmm I may try this.  I use ice in my overnight brine so I may just keep some extra ice, put them in sandwich bags and lay them on top of the breast meat while the wings and thighs come to room temperature.

Do you think that will work?

Thanks.

Yep, that will work great.  I used to use a gallon ziploc bag full of ice on each breast I think.  Can be tricky to get them to balance without falling off depending on how big the bird is, if you have trouble, you can just use twine and tie them into place.

The main thing I hate about hunting ducks is that my stupid fucking dog laughs at me every time I miss.

Mine has been since 10 this morning. I will inject it late tonight so that it can marinate for a good 12-13 hours.

This would be my drink of choice for Thanksgiving if I were home.

For my bird this year, I kept it really simple.  Worcestershire sauce, poultry seasoning, garlic pepper with 5 strips of bacon on top.  Threw it in the crock pot and that's it.  No prep or anything.

Going to my parents in Ocean City. Thankfully the in-laws go to Ocean Pines for Thanksgiving so we get to kill two birds with one stone down there.

Going to my aunt and uncle's place in the mountains of West Virginia. The drive up there along Route 70 is really great this time of year.
