I'd assume he'd want to play for a contender so that'd only happen if no one else gives him a good offer, but that'd be a fun signing.

Maybe they aren't expecting Santander.... and think they could flip Puig in a month?
Meh, idk.

Why not?

Can still play Hays everyday. Santander gets most of the LF starts with Stewart mixed in a little. I wouldn't call Diaz up this season.

If Santander is able to play, I want him in RF, and (after Week 1) Mountcastle in Left.

Stewart getting time at both corners, 1st, and DH.

I can see it with the uncertainty in the OF and potential to trade him a month later. Would be interesting.

I can see it if these guys are not ready to play.

Puig immediately becomes our best outfielder. Sign him up. Kick one of the scrubs you use to ensure losing 100 games to the curb.

Santander is okay, but not expecting much. Stewart and Smith shouldn’t be in MLB. Let’s see what Hays can do.

Mountcastle isn't an OF. His noodle arm is 1B, maybe 2B, or DH.

Stewart is fine to be in the majors but you have room for him and Puig.

I'm down. Plug him into right field. Let him rake. Ship him off.

I am a bit more worried about Santander/Smith Jr though. Smith doesn't have a future on the roster, but I was really hoping we could see a consistent Santander show he belongs as a 4th OF/DH option moving forward. Hope they are both ok

I think signing Puig adds some excitement to the short season.  Include an option for 2021.  If you can not flip him after a month, there will be chances next year.

The Orioles are clearly and justifiably worried about how little they have available in the outfield.

Wasn't it said they only have 4 outfielders.? If Stevie Wilkerson is still around he's be another. If Puig can play the field, it shouldn't cost much for 60 games.

What is Puig going to do that Mason Williams, or any other warm body, can't do?

Be an actual major league outfielder, with all-star upside.

Be a trade chip at the 8/31 deadline.

You don't have to trade him for much if you're only paying him 4 million.  A 40+ prospect probably covers his salary in terms of future marginal value.  A 45-ish prospect almost certainly covers it and then some.

Play better, not that it matters much.

Puig has his issues but he is a better player than is currently on our roster.  Sign him on the cheap, maybe with an option and use him or trade him at the deadline.  Either way, it should benefit the team.

Why do people suddenly want better players?
