Obviously could have an impact on Lamar down the road.

We will see what the money is.

My guess is its north of $300 million.

Sets the bar for a Lamar deal down the road if Lamar continues to be an MVP level player.

Guaranteed money will be what matters. Something crazy backloaded will be sure to be extended again in five or six years.

Means Lamar gets paid next offseason.  This is the final year he'll be cheap.

The Mahomes deal is an extension. KC still has him cheap for 2 years it appears.

Jackson’s existing deal won’t get ripped up.

That would be an interesting way to write a contract. A percentage of the total salary cap.

Other than Tom Brady, do teams really contend once their QB takes up that much cap space?

The other thing with the cap space contract is all the unknown with the economic implications of covid, so it protects the Chiefs a bit if the league takes a hit for a couple years and the cap is less.

Tom Brady never took a full cap hit. So you could argue he didn't either...must be nice to be married to someone who has hundreds of millions already.

A real good question.  Every time I see a contract like this, I wonder will football get to where baseball was, in regards to trading the franchise guy, getting a kings ransom and sink the money spent into 4 or 5 good players.  Franchise QB's are rare so probably not.

Compensation update: Patrick Mahomes’ 10-year extension is worth $450 million, sources tell ESPN.

The injury guarantee is $140 million, per source.

The contract does not contain language that ties its value to a percentage of the salary cap.

Richest deal in sports’ history.

Lamar could get close to 500 million unless he takes a substantial step back next year.

Unless they decide to spread the signing bonus over all 10 years.

Now...memo to all NFL teams.

No QB in the league should approach this deal.

Don’t be stupid.

You tell the other agents, this guy is the best and your client won’t get more. Set the precedent.

I also don’t see Lamar getting 10 years..too much value tied to his legs.

Pure insanity.

Guarantee mechanisms up to $477M? Enjoy that ring, I guess.

As far as NFL players go, he is as sure a thing as you could possibly have.

And he is elite.

Not from the Ravens. I would be shocked if DeCosta, from the school of Ozzie, spent that kind of money on any one position. Even an MVP QB.
