What if he/she said it 3 or 4 months ago? Isn't it only fairly recently that we've learned that the antibodies can have a short shelf life?

Not really. There were reports from Asia that people were getting reinfected well within 6 months. And regardless, at the very least, there certainly were never any indications or studies saying immunity lasted 6 months. I find it reckless for a doctor to tell someone you're good for 6 months while not knowing that to be true.

We knew it was a coronavirus.  It's the 7th one we've encountered.  None of the other 6 are known to provide 6 months immunity.

This is the big problem with disinformation:  people say things with no basis whatsoever, and then other people think, "Well, maybe..."

There was no reason to claim 6-months immunity then or now. None.

You don't advise patients of that when you don't know.

Am not trying to bad-mouth the doc... I have no idea what he actually said...

Back then most assumed antibodies would've lasted much longer. 6 months very well may have been the play-it-safe low-end estimate.

False.  Nobody had reason to think a coronavirus brought with it 6 months immunity.  None of them have yet.

I just said something that's not true... the SARS virus brings immunity with it... up to 3 years.

That's 1 of 7.  Four of 7 are the common cold.  That accounts for 5 of the 6 known prior to covid-19.  None of them provide "6 months" of immunity.

Sorry for the error... entirely my fault...  I should have double-checked before posting instead of after... mea culpa...

Show me a study from March then.

You've got this backwards... the onus is on those claiming that we have reason to conclude that there's 6 months immunity...

You also know that just "a study" is not sufficient basis for a conclusion... it depends on the scope of the study and on confirmation... you don't tell patients something that's potentially dangerous without that...

Now, can we expect civilians to have all that in mind?  Of course not.  But an MD?  Absolutely...

I think you're putting far too much weight in what is likely an offhand comment.  I don't think it very likely that Pete's friend's doctor swore on a stack of bibles that she couldn't get the virus again for exactly 183 days.  "You should be good for six months" seems like a pragmatic estimate back from in March.  I sincerely doubt whatever guidance was given also came with the doctor telling her that she could not get the virus so don't worry about social distancing.  But go ahead, take away their license...

Um... an off-hand comment... about what's safe in a deadly pandemic... from a doctor... without evidence... and you think that's okay.

To each his own, I suppose...

Personally, I doubt if the doc said anything that's even in the same county as that... but we really don't know, now do we?

Why has OSHA been AWOL about covid?

Workers are facing perilous conditions as states reopen. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration could have protected them.

“I am horrified at OSHA. I can’t even call it a response. They delegated their enforcement authority and their substantive authority to state and local entities, which leaves the typical non-organized, non-union worker who has no one protecting them at the mercy of whatever their employer decides to do.”

https://www.vox.com/...otection-rights

You can probably guess why...

“The Trump administration made it very clear: They don’t want new regulation,” said Michaels, who oversaw the development of the standard prior to stepping down in January 2017. “They want to get rid of regulation, no matter what the cost to the public in terms of their health and safety."
