Emmert reminds me of the POTUS and letting the conferences act like states. I think an NCAA wide response is what was most appropriate here. There's no way to define a champion with half the teams not playing. And it's unfathomable to put unpaid amateurs at risk to make a buck.

He is an empty suit anyway, but the NCAA has zero power.

I think it's fairly stupid to do since it's unlikely to be done safely and within the confines of also being a college student, but I don't think them scheduling games this year means they would have to or should have to leave the conference. I don't know the bylaws, but I assume it's within Nebraska's rights to schedule out-of-conference games provided they still can fit in all their conference games. If the conference games are zero, that leaves a lot of flexibility for non-conference.

What if the Big Ten does play in the Spring?  How would that work for Nebraska?

The OOC angle is interesting. The Big 12 is playing 9 in league and 1 OOC.   Maybe they could all play Nebraska?

Really? So they can shut down the SMU football program, but can't postpone a football season?

Pretty much. In all the conversations the Power 5 has had with each other, they didn't even bother to include the NCAA.
That's why every article for months has talked about the coming split.

Yeah, I saw that. I should have clarified my comment.

What is he thinking?

You can't just up and leave the conference without a whole lot of pain.

I imagine his hope is that the other 3 Power 5 conferences play, and he's able to join one on an exemption for 1 year.

I don't see that happening.

Nebraska awkwardly returning the Big 12 lol

Mack Brown was right, college football (the FBS level) needs a commissioner. Someone with the authority and the backbone to get everyone in line and say we’re going to play or we’re not. But I doubt we’d ever see it. The schools took the NCAA to court in the 80s so they wouldn’t have someone bossing them around anymore over football.

And count me among the extreme skeptics when it comes to spring football.

Doesn't sound like Nebraska will be welcome to play in the Big Ten if they play a non conference schedule this fall.

Well then.

This could get interesting. That was a pretty firm smack down.

I wonder if either has room for Nebraska.  Nebraska said they want to play this season.

has put together a very detailed and thoughtful proposal for spring football in the #B1G and how it would work in fall 2021. Will have more later but here’s the overview.
