Extra arm for the rotation competition, I guess? Or Elias wants an additional store discount when he buys his khakis?

Wow. An actual major leaguer.

Has potential, maybe the upgrades around the facilities, change of scenery, will help him realize it.

Low risk, high reward. This is what they should be doing.

Pretty legit slider that limits base hits and produces swings and misses. Something to work with. If he can find a way to limit the walks, he could be a better option than most of the guys sent to the mound last season (low bar, I know).

He seems to be the type of player to give a shot too.  Our pitching is awful, so he should get an opportunity

Considering our rotation last year, they may as well pencil him in.

So...couple of comments....

Stewart was a 1-4 pick in 2013.

The guys taken in front of him (1-2-3) were Mark Appel, Kris Bryant and Jon Gray.  The 3 guys after him...(5-6-7) were Clint Frazier, Colin Moran and Trey Ball.

Complete 1st round in 2013

The Orioles took Hunter Harvey at 1-22 and Josh Hart at 1-37.

Most successful guy drafted in the first round that year are Bryant (25.1 WAR) and Judge at 1-32 (18.6 WAR).

Jon Gray (10.6 WAR) and Tim Anderson 1-17 (10.2 WAR) are the only other guys over 10 WAR.

You have a number of interesting guys still working from that class.

Stewart has less than 1 year (.094) so if he becomes anything, you still have a full service profile (I'm guessing he's out of options)

His minor league numbers are good but not dominating.

You don't have to be rebuilding to acquire him (if there's something you like, you could still be developing it at AAA) but the Orioles are likely a more interesting situation for him given we're in the 'can anyone in here throw the ball over the plate' mode at the ML level.

Just to reiterate another point, you can have too much pitching.  We were promoting Marcos Dilpan (Melewski) in the "8 new guys" and you remove Dilpan to get Stewart.  You still (always) have to make choices.
