MASN: Orioles ready to make selection in Rule 5 draft
https://www.masnspor...le-5-draft.html

There’s a buzz surrounding hard-throwing right-hander Jordan Sheffield, 24, of the Dodgers organization. His fastball touches 98 mph and his curveball and changeup can be plus pitches. However, he’s been challenged to find the plate and teams have to weigh his stuff versus the streaks of wildness that don’t figure to suddenly disappear in the majors.

Sheffield walked 43 batters and struck out 74 this year in 55 innings between the Single-A and Double-A levels. He’s walked 128 and struck out 240 in 211 1/3 professional innings.

Historically speaking, Baltimore isn't the place where pitchers go to get fixed. Maybe the new FO will change that.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

BSL: Orioles Rule 5 Options

Megill seems like a good fit.  He kept the ball in the yard, in the PCL, which is good training for Camden Yards.

Being big also helps.

Sheffield is the guy many outlets seem to focus on because of his legit stuff, but if the Orioles want someone who could possibly help the rotation, it's not Sheffield. Megill also isn't that guy but yes, show me someone with his numbers in the PCL and I'm instantly intrigued.

We will find out in about 20 minutes. WINTER MEETINGS HYPE OVERLOAD!!!

JJ Cooper is saying the Tigers are taking Garcia at #1 and the O's are taking Bailey at #2.

As Oriole fans, we need to learn that we can not have nice things.

Lets not get too despondent over losing out on a Rule 5 draft pick.

When DET passed on him I was like HELL YEAH!! way too excited for a R5 pick, and then the O's passed too and I said yep...that's about right.

I mean how do you pass on a guy that's ready to try the starting rotation in the majors right now, not like an A ball guy, AND has some of the best GB numbers since Brandon Webb??? If there was any person more perfect for OPACY in this draft I don't know who.

Pretty easy answer...Elias likes Bailey more, a guy he likely knows very well.

Basically all of these guys suck anyway.

RHP Brandon Bailey: https://www.baseball...id=bailey004bra

RHP Michael Rucker: https://www.baseball...id=rucker000mic

Interesting: both went to college at Gonzaga, though Rucker transferred to BYU.

All of the guys selected in the minor league phase have intriguing qualities. I realize very few people get into the Rule 5 but I love learning about these new guys and as someone who watches minor league baseball every day, it's another way for me to stay involved.

Santiago hits the ball, mostly singles, but had a 119 wRC+ in High-A and Eric Longenhagen just noted that Christopher Cespedes had the second highest average exit velocity in the minors last year. Will they ever make it in the big leagues? Probably not, but they could fun to watch while in Frederick/Bowie this year.
