Calling it idiotic or stupid lets them off the hook too lightly, IMO.

I think it's important to point out that this is solely driven by greed. The O's payroll is gonna be well below what even the currently lower revenues can support, even with Villar and some others added. Cutting him is all about making even more profit. Angelos family doesn't care at all about the current on field product, this shows that losing 115 games is no different to them than losing 85 as long as it is less expensive.

Maybe if they know they are gonna give up the MASN fight and pay out, but even with that I'd be surprised if they need to slash payroll to this noncompetitive level. It does make some sense to swallow the MASN shortages now when the team is bad rather than a have to pay it later when it may stop you from doing something that helps you win.

And I don't believe the basis of that explanation. I think the MASN fight is far from over.

They get around 120 million from the National TV contract and there half of the MASN revenues as reported several years ago was $60 million.

Don't trying to talk yourself out of it! This moves stinks, it was just being cheap, and either Elias is an idiot or doesnt have the pulse of the owners.

They said Villar wasn't traded at the deadline because he didnt get an offer to his liking. What is he getting now? Nothing notta!

I am to the point, where I really do not care what this team does anymore.

This to me, is wrong on a number of points,

1.  It is all nothing more than a payroll dump.  A BS Bundy rade will follow,

2.  This franchise has lost 223 games the last 2 years. At some point you have to at least like you act like you would like to win a game.

3.  The gutless jerks, tried to bury the move in the Thanksgiving break.

Honestly for those Elias lovers ...Tell me what he's done that any bumbling idiot couldn't have done since he's gotten here.

In fairness to him, he's using a different metric than you are.

He's building infrastructure/process.  That's it.

Any time you can non tender the second place leader on your team in OPS you have to do it.

Why would Elias and Mejdal want to continue to work for an organization like this? This is a giant F you to any Orioles fan loyal enough to still attend a game or even tune in after 220+ losses the past 2 years.

The inability for this guy to get anything of value for a player thats produced 3.7 and 4 WAR in 2 of the past 4 seasons.

Truly disturbing

I dont care about his infastructure or process, He's bought in a bunch of his buddies and agreed to pay them big salaries while discarding guys that were already here, Even if they were doing a good job.

Thats just corporate America....He's done nothing to convince me he a competent GM

I'm not surprised that there isn't a market for Villar. It's absolutely insane to suggest we could get something of note for him but Elias is choosing to nontender him instead.

But it's still completely inexcusable to nontender him for budget reasons when the payroll is already incredibly low.

Is this an indictment on Elias as well?

I mean have they considered the fact that they could tender him a deal — pay him 5 million or so and then deal him in July?

Only from Johnny so far. I should've quoted him in the last post, he's who I was responding to.

Fine to be critical of Elias to date. But I don't think there not being a market for Villar is Elias' fault and that he should've been able to drum up interest.

When you state in public, that you are going to have budget issues and not be able to keep players, it sends the message to other teams.  I think he is arrogant,  and so determined to do things by numbers that he is letting assets walk away with little to no return

Rays DFA Aguilar. Figure for 3 million or whatever he would be worth keeping around too.
