If one uses the actual results of all games played in Weeks 1-2 and assumes all higher rated MaxPreps teams win in Weeks 3-9, then the Week 9 playoff points will look like this :

It will be very interesting with the new format (9 game season with top 8 in for each region). Positives will be that this eliminates deserving teams from being exlcuded (like an 8-2 team, which has happened several times). Negative is that there will be several mediocre and even teams with losing records getting in as 8 seeds, only to face a 1 seed in round 1 which will likely result in blowouts in most regions. Sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for....

Yeah I don't see this lasting for more than two years, but you never know with the participation people, they may try to add all the teams!!!!

They actually do that for just about every other sport already. Logistically that would be a nightmare for football

If all the team got in, would a team like Northwood want to take on Quince Orchard or Wise? They may have safety concerns!

The originally playoff format had a consolation bracket, and those teams could add a 10 game or end their season

Didn't they scrap the consolation bracket?

Yes

I don't know why they would deprive the kids of their 10th game. Must be to save money!

There were several factors that went into the new proposal and the consolation round. Ultimately it was decided to scrap that option. Yes some teams that had a difficult season would appreciate one extra week to improve but there would be several teams on the other side of that - teams that had awful seasons that just want it to be done for the year.

Remember football is different from other sports because you can only play 1 game per week, so allowing all teams into an open tournament like other sports cannot happen...Football would go until the end of December.

It seems like a lot of under .500 teams will be playing in the playoffs. I don’t think it’s a good look.

They take the top eight from each classification correct?
