The AP has put OSU ahead of Clemson, so it's okay for you traditionalists to do the same now. I promise. ;)

Deified-Dozen-2019-Week-8.jpg

https://www.baltimor...ll-week-8-poll/

Week 8 was big for the Pac-12, and also saw a major upset. Oregon got a huge road win against Washington to move from #12 to #11, and Utah took the Ducks' #12 spot, making its first Dozen appearance this season with a win over Arizona State. The Utes' ascendance came at the expense of Wisconsin, who took a bad loss at Illinois. The other marquee game of the week featured Penn State holding off a furious comeback effort by Michigan to remain undefeated and move up to #6. Ohio State was also a big mover, up to #3 coming off an impressive win on a road Friday game at Northwestern.

Week 9 will see attention shift back to the SEC, as #8 Auburn goes to Death Valley to play #2 LSU. An Auburn win keeps their Playoff hopes alive, while an LSU win could vault them to #1 given Alabama's lighter SoS so far. Meanwhile Wisconsin will have little time to lick their wounds, as they head to Columbus to play Ohio State. A win keeps their Playoff hopes alive and maybe vaults them back into the Deified Dozen, while a loss puts their odds of playing for the conference title in serious jeopardy. #7 Notre Dame travels to Ann Arbor to face the aforementioned Wolverines, who will hope to keep their late-game momentum going against their old rivals. Keep an eye on Oregon hosting Washington State. The Cougars have won four straight in that series, and Mike Leach's air raid always seems to win a game or two they aren't expected to.

Wrong as it feels to knock Alabama down two spots after they just demolished someone (with a backup QB no less), LSU has a much better resume, and I'm overdue in showing Ohio St some well-earned love.

Deified-Dozen-2019-Week-9a.jpg

https://www.baltimor...ll-week-9-poll/

Week 9 Saw another big upset in the top half of the Deified Dozen, features a new #1 team, and a first-ever Dozen entrant. LSU is our third top-ranked team of the season, and interestingly enough the two previous #1s (Alabama and Clemson) remain unbeaten, but lack LSU's impressive resume. The Tigers were powered to the top spot by a big win over Auburn. The loss did not hurt the 'other' Tigers too badly in our rankings, dropping only three spots to #11; though it almost certainly ended their Playoff hopes. Oklahoma was the victim of a surprise upset this time around, falling at unranked Kansas State and dropping to #10. Meanwhile, Notre Dame got walloped at Michigan, and that one did cost the Irish dearly in the voters' eyes, dropping them out of the rankings for the first time this season. Notre Dame's downfall opened a spot for the surprise Minnesota Golden Gophers (8-0) to move into the #12 spot.

Week 10 features a big head-to-head Dozen matchup, that being The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party; a.k.a. the annual Florida (#6) vs Georgia (#7) meeting in Jacksonville. Not much else of note in this week, as six teams have byes. Looking further ahead, four of those bye teams will square off in head-to-head matchups the following week (LSU at Alabama and Penn State at Minnesota). Do keep an eye on the two Pac-12 teams in the Dozen, as both will hit the road for tricky matchups; #8 Oregon at USC and #9 Utah at Washington.

Most years I think the SEC is overrated and their rankings inflated by their tendency to play weak schedules and only home games in the early season. But not this year. We have 4 in the top 7 and I think its spot on. The SEC is scary strong this year.

It's setting up for the SEC to get 2 Playoff teams this year.
