I heard Windhorst talking today about the idea of playing games without fans or potentially sequestered games. He even floated the idea of an aircraft carrier! I mean, I don't think he's coming up with this ideas on his own, but I'll be really interested to see if the NBA tries to find a way to get games back on in the short-term.

This, of course, could also just all be hot air.

Does the last guy on the roster have to dive in, when the ball goes into the ocean.

I would guess this is hot air, but I think all sports are desperate to play games.

Think of what the TV ratings would be, if they found a way to do games.

This what I'm thinking. And they also want guys tuned up before the playoffs. At this point, even if everything lifted today, you're 2 weeks away from games. If you could do an isolation type thing to get towards the playoffs, you could get it running sooner if you can.

It's going to be all about the money.

I am not sure they could get approval, but I found myself watching PBA Bowling today, so the ratings would be crazy high.

The current projections are based on maintaining existing social distancing through the end of May.

So unless the NBA moves the players to one location, and plays without fans...

I think the Postseason begins (with NBA skipping the remainder of the regular season) in mid June after 10 days of prep.

Maybe shorter 3 and 5 game series through the Conference Finals?

2019-20 ending with The Finals in August.

2019-21 beginning around Thanksgiving or later.

I wonder if they might try and do some regional mini-tournaments that were televised during mid to late May. This seems like the best case scenario at this stage though.

I really do hope we still get playoffs. It was really shaping up to be good...

The NBA has been floating the idea of a midseason tournament (like European soccer) of some sort for a couple years now. If it works out that they are simply unable to hold a regular playoff, or an abbreviated version that at least comes close to maintaining the integrity of the usual playoffs, then maybe this would be a good time to try out one of their ideas for the midseason thing.

I wouldn't award the O'Brien trophy to the winner, it would be whatever other award they decide to do. It should also be noted in the record book that the winner is not the actual NBA champion. Unfortunately that will simply have to be left vacant. But it would at least give fans one last chance to see basketball before next season, and it would help a little towards making up all the lost revenues.

I could be wrong, but I thought, I read or heard somewhere that the NBA actually had something on the books that stated that if for any reason the NBA playoffs had to be canceled the owner of the best record at the time.

IMO, it would be a mistake to enact that.   The people in Milwaukee may disagree though.

Interesting and let's face it.  It will draw viewers.   At this point the nations sports fans would watch a full contact backgammon match.
