We don't know how long Garrett's suspension will be. It is currently an indefinite suspension. He has to apply for reinstatement. He is definitely out for the rest of this season. He may still end up with games next season. That is yet to be determined.

I think he'll serve some games next season.

I would not be surprised if it is at least half the season. ( eight games plus)

I believe that he is appealing the suspension as well.

From reading an article in the Post Gazette, I don't think Garrett has formally appealed  yet..  Pouncey and the Brown Clown that drilled Rudolph in the back, get their hearings this week.

My guess, is Garrett is waiting to see how those play out.

I think 10+ games is absolutely justified for what he did.

I don't care at all about being in line with past precedent. Being a slave to precedent only should be done when the people making the earlier decisions can be assumed to have made good choices. I don't think the NFL qualifies.

I'm more open to the argument that past precedent shouldn't really apply because the NFL made terrible decisions in the past.  Expanding to all sports, you could make a pretty strong case that there's been a general under-punishment of athletes behaving badly on-field.  Artest's Malice in the Palace suspension is the only one that approaches the equivalent of the 10+ games suggested. (90% of the season + playoff games, equivalent of 14 regular season NFL games and the entirety of the playoffs.) That situation was unquestionably far, far worse than Garrett's, and if Garrett's actions are worthy of 10+ games then Artest should have sat out another season.

CBS Sports: How 17-game season would work in proposed CBA with vote expected after the 2019 season

https://www.cbssport...he-2019-season/

The proposal includes Week 1 still beginning after Labor Day, and the Super Bowl concluding the final Sunday of February (which could be bad news for The Oscars). It would allow the NFL to have playoff games on air throughout the month of February -- critical sweeps weeks for its broadcast partners -- and would include two byes for each team.

The additional game for each club would be played out-of-market, the sources said, with a heavy emphasis on key international locales like the United Kingdom (London and Ireland, in particular), Germany, Mexico and Brazil. It also opens the possibility of a full eight-game regular season schedule of games in London – something commissioner Roger Goodell is very supportive of -- with fans there able to buy a "season ticket," which would include at least two Jaguars games.

The NFL has also talked internally about playing games in other cities in the U.S. which do not have pro teams, with some buzz about playing a game at Notre Dame or Alabama, as well as Hawaii and cities in Canada. It is viewed as a unique and profound way to grow the game globally and extend the reach of sales, merchandising and broadcast rights around the globe, with there only so much more room for growth within America.

I don't like it.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Play 2 of each teams preseason games in foreign countries. Leave the 16 game regular season in America. People in foreign countries won’t care if it’s preseason.

Only time English soccer comes to America is in games that don’t count.

Doesn’t exactly lay out who that 17th team is against for each team. The 16 game schedule and the division structure makes scheduling perfect and easy.

I assume they'll try to do a geographic inter-conference rival.

A lot make sense like:

Ravens-Redskins

Jets-Giants

Patriots-Eagles

Dolphins-Bucs

Jaguars-Panthers

Texans-Cowboys

Rams-Chargers

Browns-Lions

While others are pretty hit or miss:

Titans-Falcons

Raiders (LV)-Cardinals

Broncos-Seahawks

Titans-Falcons

Bengals-Saints

Colts-Bears

Bills-Vikings

Steelers-Packers

The 17th game needs to be on a neutral field.

It's not fair to give one team an extra home game when they're in a tight race with another team.

I've long thought that a no preseason, 18-game, 20-week schedule makes the most sense.  I'd like to see more regular season football.  The NFL (and players, through their portion of the cap share) get paid for three extra weeks of football from the networks.  Nobody has to pay for preseason nonsense.  And you can use the bye weeks a bit more intelligently and try to ensure teams are rested throughout the year and prior/after any schedule oddities like London or Thursdays.

Keep the schedule at 16 games. It's easy to push for more games when you're an NFL suit sitting in an office, because you're not the one getting the living bejesus beat out of you every week. Player careers are finished very quickly.
