ESPN:

The Cowboys season has hit a crossroad with their 24-22 loss to the previously winless New York Jets. Their three-game winning streak is a distant memory with now a three-game losing streak. The offense failed in critical moments. The defense was shredded in the first half. Brett Maher kissed a 40-yard field goal attempt. Even with injuries, this should not have happened.

The 49ers moved to 5-0 for first time since 1990 and get their most impressive win to date this season, going on the "road" and knocking off the Rams 20-7 despite missing their starting offensive tackles, fullback and a cornerback. Also, QB Jimmy Garoppolo now has his second five-game winning streak as a 49er. The time has come to take the Niners seriously as a legitimate NFC contender.

Sam Darnold returned and the Jets looked like a real football team. They beat the Cowboys, 24-22, their first win under Adam Gase. Darnold led a first-half offensive explosion and it was enough as the defense held on in crunch time. The Jets (1-4) won't make the playoffs, but this was a badly needed win for team morale.

As easy as it is to second-guess in hindsight the Seahawks' decision to pass on Nick Chubb last year in favor of Rashaad Penny, consider this: Chubb might not be starting for Seattle either with the way Chris Carson is playing. With Penny sidelined again, Carson hit triple-digits for the third week in a row with 124 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. He caught four passes for 35 yards. Said Pete Carroll: "The last few weeks, he's just been on fire. He's just so tough. I love the way he plays."

Do you have to be a hillbilly to be a Steelers QB?

Were there any Charger fans at that game tonight? It's one thing to play in front of a hostile crowd, but it's another when you're supposed to be the home team.

If the Chargers want to play in front of their own fans, all they have to do is go two hours south back to where they belong.

Mahomes out after running a sneak on a bad ankle.

WTF was Reid thinking?

They originally brought out the cart but he was able to walk off with a noticeable limp.

Latest updates are saying Mahomes has a dislocated kneecap. He did walk off under his own power, although that's not always the most reliable of indicators, either.

It's a pretty safe play, although you do have to question the wisdom in calling it when the quarterback is already dealing with a high ankle sprain. In all my years of watching football, I can't ever remember a quarterback getting hurt on that play.

I really don't get risking the long term health of your franchise, world beater QB like this. Playing with any lower body injury can always lead to a significant one. This seems like incredibly poor judgement, negligible even.

How bad is Denver though? Still get ran at home.
