Whats that have to do with anything? What does LA being a fast defense (are they much faster than other NFL defenses?) have to do with Jackson needing to make plays from the pocket?

Because when he gets outside the pocket, the speed of the Chargers defense can negate him some.

It’s always an asset but it’s an asset that some teams can neutralize and a player like James and edge rushers like Ingram and Bosa could cause him a lot of trouble.

Ok. That makes sense. No doubt they need Stanley and Brown to bring their A-game. a game plan with plenty of RPO and play action, designed bootlegs can help neautralize those elite rushers

Justin Tucker snubbed by the Pro Bowl.

How about a GWFG this week?

Chargers are second in DVOA and the Ravens are 6th

Chargers offense is very high..Ravens defense is very high.

Ravens offense is average or so..Chargers defense is above average.

ST is a huge difference. SD is 29th..Ravens are 6th. That’s where the Ravens have the big advantage. See what they can do with that.

Sucks that we have to travel cross country and play a short week vs LA playing last Thursday night.

It's a matter of time until teams start making him be a pocket passer. You're going to start seeing mush-rushes and spys being used. Teams wont give Jackson the option to pass, they're going to force him to stay in the pocket and win from there.

I'm not sure this is true.  It's not like anything has changed in regards to how teams expect Jackson and this offense to look.  The Bengals knew exactly what we were going to do, or at the very least they knew what to expect by halftime.  nothing in the past 4 1/2 games has been surprising.  Teams know it's coming and still have not done been able to accomplish the things that people are saying are fairly simple ways to stop this offense.

I don't think it's as simple as changing your defensive gameplan to stop this rushing offense.  The approach seems obvious.  And yet the offensive line and runners have done enough to continue to consistently gain yards.  The offense will get held down eventually, but it will be because the opposing defensive players won their battles, not because some coordinator finally cracked the code.  It's no secret.

Speaking of the run scheme and what defense can do...

Do yourselves a favor and go on Brian Baldingers twitter page (he’s a must follow btw)

Watch his recent breakdown of some of the run plays and especially watch Yanda. Yanda is the type of player that makes you enjoy watching Oline play.

Yanda is a HOFer.   He has been a great player for a long time.

The other guy who is playing at a high level is Stanley.   He is a run blocking machine and has only allowed one sack all year.

Ngata didn't hit RG3 outside the pocket. He tried to go up the middle.

Ekeler cleared concussion protocol but still has neck nerve issues.

RG3 was running down field and Ngata got him from behind.

Ken from RSR:

The @Chargers rely on 4-man pressure to get home and drop 7 on the bulk of pass plays. That's a combination that has given Flacco trouble in the past. However, LAC has held opponents to the 2nd lowest QBR when blitzing (63.9). @Ravens #Ravensflock #UKRavens

This was in response to an Edge NFL matchup teeet showing how LA blitzing less than almost every team in the league.

Saw a comment talking about how small the chargers are up front.

That they are very fast but small on defense...that’s similar to Atlanta (although LA is more talented)

Anyway, I think the hope has to be that the consistent pounding of the football on their Dline wears them down over the course of the game.

It will be imperative that the defense holds down their offense early to allow the run game to start the wearing down process.

Schefter:

Chargers’ WR Keenan Allen, who left last Thursday’s game vs. Chiefs with a hip pointer, is now expected to play Saturday night vs. Ravens, per source. Allen has look improved and ready at practice this week.

RB Melvin Gordon, who has been out with an MCL, also expected to play.

As a few posters have pointed out, here is the real test:

"CHARGERS RUSH DEFENSE: The Chargers allow the ninth-fewest yards per game and the 13th-fewest yards per carry in the league and have easily the best run defense the Ravens have faced since Jackson took over the offense. They’ve held three of their last four opponents to fewer than 70 yards rushing. Rookie safety Derwin James has been excellent against the run and leads the team in tackles."

If and only if the Ravens can run well and often it gives them a really good chance to pull this upset.
