Also got Philadelphia's Rule 5 pick Drew Jackson (Dodgers) in exchange for...wait for it...international bonus money.

Another infielder with low-.800s OPS, speed, some power, and a 2:1 K/BB, just a year older.

Yay.  Two Rule 5 shortstops.  Big Dan would be proud.

Makes sense.   Double your chances of one of them becoming a useful major league player .

Big Dan, left very few infield options.

The whole rule 5 thing didn't make much sense from 2013-2018. When you're a team that's in "win now" mode, it seems counter-productive to sacrifice a ML roster spot for a player who is obviously not ML ready, let alone actually able to contribute in a meaningful way.

For the most part, the rule 5 draft just seems like an exercise in GIGO

Good news! I saw a dog today.

Rule 5 impressions Orioles/Richie Martin everyone seems to like this and I agree, very good pick with speed, OBP potential, good defense, shot at being a regular nice value in Rule 5

Rule 5 impression-11 Drew Jackson/Orioles interesting combo with Richie Martin up the middle, has some speed, some pop, some walks, glove versatile, should be good role player

That’s the type of player you trade intl money for, especially money you can’t use.

Lol,  yeah somewhere DD is popping a bottle of champagne on these moves.  Daily double on two on DDs most loved moves.  Rule 5 picks and trading international bonus money.

I like the moves.  Why not.  Have to chuckle on trading international bonus slot money.  Hell Elias could probably pick up 10 or 12 more Drew Jackson types with all the slot money DD left in the bank!!!  DD would be in heaven!

LOL, DD pulled this kind of move 2 or 3 times every year.  Trading slot money for fringe 40 man roster guys like Yelfry Rameriez.

BTW, DD had slot money he couldn't use every damn year.

Trading slot money for potential ML contributors is fine.

Trading it for guys who are old and terrible, which we did way too often, is terrible.

The amount of slot money we have can’t likelt be spent this year anyway, so trading it for some potential piece that could help soon is a good idea.

Totally agree it was a good move to make this trade.  Its just ironic we are in same boat on slot money we can't use under new regime, even though its for totally different reasons.  Its like ole DD left a suitcase of confederate dollars for Elias to spend, LOL.

I do think Elias will find away to use some of it though just like he did in this deal.

I'm not sure trading slot money for a 25 year old AA utility player is much different than what we've done before, but whatever. If it wasn't  going to be spent, that's fine.

LOL, yeah DD had 3 or 4 million slot money every year he couldn't use so he traded for the likes of Damien Manifico among others.

I'm still hopeful somehow Elias can talk some good international prospects into signing next spring early summer before 1 July with an overpay contract.

I had Zero expectations in Vegas but I have to admit we are the champions of Rule 5. We have it down to a science. LOL

Hell, Elias probably doesn't even have an international group of scouts together as of yet, so he traded some slot money for a guy who may have some upside. Having a pile of international money is only good if you have somewhere to spend it.
