Orioles claim 3B Rio Ruiz off waivers from the Braves. Elias and the Astros drafted him in the fourth round of the 2012 draft.

We also lost RHP Ryan Meisinger on a waiver claim by the Cardinals.

Still 2 spots on the 40, so probably 2  rule 5 picks.

Pretty surprising Susac is still on the 40 man.   Donnie Hart too.

I think I would have rather had Meisinger than Hart.    Feel the same about Susac.

None really matter, IMO, but I think Meisinger is better than Hart too.

Susac supposedly went home last year, after he got hurt, so let him stay there.

Roch:

“Elias said he’s interviewed 6 manager candidates in person. There won’t be any more. #orioles”

“Also no 2nd round of interviews. Has all the info he needs. Hopes to make hire this month #orioles”

“Elias views Villar as #orioles primary SS for now”

“Also, Elias doesn’t expect #orioles to be fast movers in free agency.”

“Elias confirmed Chris Holt as minor league pitching coordinator. Said he values Brady Anderson’s “institutional knowledge.” Will find ways to utilize it. Anderson is here. #orioles”

“Elias also mentioned the valuable work done by Tripp Norton and Mike Snyder #orioles”

“38 on 40 man roster and Elias said will keep options open for 2 selections in Rule 5 #orioles”

“Elias still determining if he’ll have 1 person oversee player development and scouting #orioles”

“Nothing imminent for #orioles on trade front. Looking for improvement everywhere. But Elias did mention catcher and middle infield as 2 spots”

Meoli: “On dismissals of Gary Rajsich and Brian Graham, Elias said it’s all in service of building an elite farm system like he was brought in to do: “I think we have the best—among the best—track records in the industry in this regard.” #Orioles”

Connolly: “Simply put, Elias said he is expecting to increase the talent base throughout the organization. That’s his goal for 2019. Have better talent from top to bottom.”

Dubroff: “Elias says he’s used to having a team with a top 5 or 10 minor league system and wants #Orioles to have a system like that.”

The Blue Jays have cut ties with Troy Tulowitzki despite having two years and $34 million left on his contract.

I know he sounds like a perfect buy-low, sell-high candidate, but Tulo's 34, has only played about 240 games the past four seasons, and is no longer a plus defender at shortstop. Still, if he could be had for the right price, there's no law which states rebuilding teams can't sign veteran players to shorter-term deals. It isn't as if the Orioles have a bona fide shortstop candidate at the present time.

You likely would sign him with the thought he could move to third.

I think I would pass. He has trouble staying on the field. I think he would likely sign with a contender anyways as a bench player.

Actually, the Orioles are the exact team he should sign with.

Homer park, ability to play a new position everyday, build up value for 1 year.

I agree.

Not much to lose by taking a shot.

You could get him for the veteran minimum and he may be able reemerge as a versatile infielder.

Price is irrelevant.  He will cost his next the minimum salary.

Technically he could agree to a deal where his new team pays him more, but when he signs a contract, the salary he receives will be offset from what the Blue Jays owe him.  So Tulo cannot get more money over what he is already owed (unless someone offered him more than the $20M the Jays owe him for 2019), and as such he will be paid the minimum by his new team and $19.445M by the Jays in 2019.  Same thing for 2020, except his base salary is $14M.

Thanks for explaining that.  I was about to ask if he could get more than the minimum from another team, and basically double-dip.
