How cool was This Week In Baseball?

Another era, but that was when baseball was somewhat 'magical' to me.

Highlights were still spotty.  The National League was still a mystery.

Loved the theme music.

It was the best. Couldn't wait for it to come on every Saturday. It was our only link to the highlights until we got cable. The bloopers and the great plays were always my favorite.

Mel Allen was great!  I can still hear his voice.

It's not just the amount, guys are hitting tape measure shots. When I watch the highlights every morning I've never seen so many balls land in places balls usually don't. Even at Camden Yards there have been a dozen or so balls hitting the back row of the left field bleachers, in the upper bullpen, where maybe one or two balls a year would make it out there.

McCutchen out for the season with a torn ACL. I think he did it on a play where he was on 1st on a pop up, Segura didn’t run so the fielder let it fall. Cutch then became a runner in a double play situation.

That’s why you hustle boys and girls. Freak injury, but if Segura even jogs to first base, Cutch doesn’t have to move.

Segura did trip as he swung, so it's not like he popped it up and just started walking away. But he still should have made more of an effort.

Here's a new way to think about OF D: We're calling it "Jump."

That is, defense is more than just about top speed. Who gets the best jumps?

We're defining that as "who covers the most ground (feet) in first 3 sec."

Don't know where else to put this, but the MVP Machine was the best baseball book I've read since Lords of the Realm.

I would send Chris Davis to see Driveline or Doug Latta (the guy who helped Justin Turner).

But seriously, read the book.

Pre-ordered it but have only been able to read the first couple chapters so far. I already know I’m gonna love it.
