I'm probably being a bit optimistic here, but I am going to go ahead and say they finish 10-6 and make the postseason as a WC.

My reasoning is the defense is still very good and even with a more challenging schedule, I think the improvements to the offense will make for a solid team that is capable of playing with anyone.

9-7 and that's being generous.

10-6, WC.  Offense can't be as lame as it was last year right?

This is one of the more unpredictable seasons we've had in quite a while. So much uncertainty.

Anyone that says they know this year is just making a lucky guess. Variance is crazy high.

And as Gabe mentions, it's likely going to be on Joe and the offense. There are enough defensive players that can give you the value you need to make up for things in a lot of places. If you've got the offense that posted 29.8 PPG over the last 9 games of the season last year, we'll easily be 10-6 and threaten for the division title, IMO.

I'm going to say we're an unconvincing 10-6. And that our schedule turns out to have more duds on it than it looks. I think ultimately Denver, Tennessee, Oakland and KC (I think Mahomes is going to make that team a bit of a boom or bust type) are not as good as they seem on paper and should all be wins. Add in Buffalo, 2 Cle Games, Cinci and Tampa this isn't that bad of a schedule. Throw in just one Pitt win, or any of the NFC South games and you're already at 10 wins.

It's week 1.   Optimism reigns.  10-6 and a playoff berth.

So, I get that the Ravens don’t have elite plymaking talent (I do think it’s similar to what they have had in the past when they have won though) but outside of that, why would you be pessimistic about the team?

To me, there are 2 potential big issues:

1) The Oline. I like what the upside of it and I think the starters could be a very good group but guys adjusting to each other, coming back from injury, etc...could be some growing pains early on.

2) 31 of the 53 players have 3 or less years experience. In some ways, that’s great. Guys should be in good shape, faster, more refreshed, higher upside. Downside is that is a lot of youth and inexperience to lean on.

While those are potentially major issues, I also feel that this team is well positioned to do some good things. I still say they enter the season as an 8-10 win team and no better than the 5th best team in the AFC...but the upside to be a lot more is there and they could be really good.

This will lead to Flacco and coaching staff ouster

The divisional scheduling didn’t do us any favors. We play the two weak AFC West teams and the only weak NFC South team at home. Also home for Buffalo vs going to Tennessee is a bad break.

From your list I'd say:

Winnable losses (40% chance to win)

@ Tenn

Pitt

@ KC

New Orleans

@ Cin

Losable winners (40% chance to lose)

Cin

Tampa

Oak

I'd the other games are much stronger leans to wins or losses either way. And I think we'll pick off one of Atlanta or Carolina.

I'd be pretty surprised if we went 1-7 on the road this year though.

We lost by 3 @Titans last year.  This year's Ravens are better and the Titans are running a Swiss Pees defense.

The Ravens usually play the Steelers very tough.  I think we split with them.

New Orleans has very good offense, but the Ravens defensive scheme has always given them trouble. Payton/Brees have never beaten us.  At home, I think that trend could easily continue.

Nobody cares about the Chargers in LA.  That tiny stadium is going to be full of West Coast Ravens fans.  I expect the Ravens will look good for the West Wing (http://thewestwingla.com/).

Are you in LA? I was there for the f'ing 4th and 12 game and so was Ogden. I assume he was in town for the Rose Bowl Parade the next day. Pretty cool group that gets together there.

No, I'm a MD local, but I have heard about the great fans out there, and I read a very active thread on another forum where at least a dozen people were discussing game day plans for the @LAC game.  Sure sounded like they were ready to stage a stadium takeover :)

Screw it.

11-5. Ravens remain abnormally healthy and grab the 3 seed, Flacco makes good on the hot seat, Crabtree is a godsend.

Let's fucking go.

You like to gamble. You want to set the O/U at 1.5 road wins and I will take the over? Would love to bet that one.
