He continues to be very good at Norfolk.  Would like to see a couple starts with the big club in Sept.  I've seen enough of Ramirez to know he is a long or middle reliever. He can replace Mike Wright next year.

I hereby nickname him Jolly Rogers and propose we trade him to the Pirates for rum and some wenches.

It’ll be nice to see a lefty starting for them again. Sounds like a finesse guy which is fine if can command his pitches. Done well as he’s moved up.

I think he has very little margin for error.  He doesn't get Ks, but he doesn't walk people.  Not a heavy groundball guy, so he must be getting by in the minors by avoiding hard contact.  I don't think it'll work up here, but he's done enough at AAA to earn the shot.  Give him the rest of the year in the rotation and strongly consider him for next year depending on how it goes (if he's under a 6 ERA the rst of this year, he's on the short list).

Agreed. Guys with underwhelming velocity have to hit their spots. Curious to see the horizontal movement, if any, he gets with his stuff which could help unless he has great command.

He’s been generating weak contact in the minors, so I’m guessing he has some deception. It’s hard to tell on tv, but some of the few swings and misses (inside FB to Travis) were well placed and didn’t seem to be plus pitches. His CH is below average and the slider command is spotty. Hitters having trouble picking it up? He does have the type of delivery that looks like he’s jumping at the hitter.

The ball could be a legitimate issue for the first start, but the command definitely needs to improve. The HR allowed to Smoak was a good example of bad command without movement.

Buck’s response on innings limits:

“Anybody who says it’s X-number of innings jump, walk away from it because they don’t know,” he said.

Rogers has “a finite number of innings available,” according to Showalter.

Well, Buck, certainly no contradiction there.

Yeah, his BS strawman's are usually pretty consistent.

I would let him start and go as long as he can, and not use Straily for a few innings to start the game.

Up in Baltimore as bullpen insurance with Josh Lucas to the DL. Brief stint I’m sure. He’s been terrible.

Josh Rogers covered the last 4 1/3 innings, allowing Brandon Hyde to use only 2 relievers. Rogers deserves some sort of a save here. #orioles
