281 ab's, .780 OPS.

He's on-pace for 35 homers, and 29 doubles.

He seems to run hot and cold, but that's fine.

If he's an upper 700s OPS guy with good pop, that has value even if it's limited to DH, 1B, or some mediocre 3B (once his shoulder is better?).

I'm skeptical he can continue this over a longer haul, but certainly he continues to earn more time.  If his shoulder (was that the injury?) is healed enough to make the throw, I'd like to see him back across the diamond.  Ruiz has been brutally terrible offensively.  Nunez may be awful defensively, but if he can improve enough to be passable, that'd be very helpful both from a value standpoint (bat plays up a lot better at 3B than 1B) and a roster standpoint (1B/DH is getting quite crowded with other guys we wanna look at).

Ruiz has certainly gone cold. He had his OPS over .700 on May 20th.  Down to .622 currently, after a .511 OPS in June (62 ab's).

Ruiz has had a lot of good ab's this year though imo, good approach. Sprays liners when going right. Do question if he can hit enough overall though. Plays a very solid 3rd.

Nunez had good advanced metrics at 3rd last year, but everyone seemed down on him defensively based on the eye test.
Like you (Mackus), if his arm is now healthy, I'd like to see him getting some time at 3rd.

So Boog Powell and Renato Nunez are the only #orioles to hit 20 home runs before the All-Star break while age 25 or younger. Those 2 guys.

The only thing I can add is...https://hispanickitc...arbecue-recipe/

Didn't Machado do it just last year?

He hit another homer tonight.  It would be nice for him to find a position.  He is proving he is a big league hitter.

Would be huge if he can handle third passably. Both because it's a lesser offensive position and the bat will carry more value and because of the potential logjam we're trending towards at 1B/DH.

I've got little to no hope of average defense. But not terrible is ok if he's gonna hit.

Advanced metrics have liked his defense over there.

Machado:

15 doubles

25 HR

66 RBI

.266 AVG

.338 OBP

.508 SLG

.846 OPS

Nunez:

19 doubles

24 HR

57 RBI

.252 AVG

.316 OBP

.518 SLG

.833 OPS

Not saying Nunez is close to being as good as Machado; the defense Machado supplies is a huge advantage, but Nunez is younger and about $300 million cheaper.

So your point is that Manny Machado at his worst is still better than Renato Nunez at his best?

My take is that IF Nunez can play passable 3B defense I would rather have him than Manny.  Take the savings of somewhere near $29M/year and put it to other players.

Bottom line is Nunez + $29M >> Manny

It's actually Machado at his mean.

Nunez has surprised me.

He seems to be getting better with more playing time.    He is more patient at the plate and is seeing more pitches.  I think his walk rate will go up as he goes on, and his power is impressive.

Based on what?

My opinion is that the O's can get much more production with Nunez and additional players than they can with just Manny.
