MASN: After latest run-scoring hit, is Yusniel Diaz pushing for a roster spot?

The O's pretty much have to play the service time game with Diaz, though, don't they?

They would be idiots not to.

He needs to "work on his defense" a bit.

He was in A+ last July.  Sending him down won't have any controversy and considering him on the MLB roster to begin the year would be a horrible idea.  This isn't like Vald Jr where he made it to AAA (and killed it) last season and is pretty obviously being sent down solely for service time reasons.  There is no reasonable argument that can be made that Diaz has nothing left to prove in the minors.  He's had 2 ok months at AA.  He's got a lot of work left to do before you can say he's beating down the door.  A strong spring is completely meaningless, IMO.

(#1) Yusniel Diaz, OF

Ht/Wt: 6’1” / 195 lbs.          B/T: R/R         Highest Level: AA             Age (as of April 1, 2019): 22y, 5m

Diaz was the main prospect returned by the Orioles last summer for Manny Machado. He got off to a fast start in the Texas League and starred in the Futures Game before the trade, struggling down the stretch once he reached Baltimore’s Double-A affiliate. If he can refine an over-aggressive approach and find more consistency at the plate while sticking in CF, Diaz has the upside of an above-average regular. Defensively, he’s capable of playing an average CF but isn’t a slam dunk to remain at the position. A move down the defensive spectrum would likely mean Diaz tops out a FV 50 type, but we see him as a player destined to play a long time in the big leagues either way.

Rough 20 games to start the year.  Let's see what the next 60 games look like.

Currently on the IL, sounds like a hamstring issue.

Starting to look like Villar will be the most productive player we got back from the trades last year. Everyone else we got will be hard pressed to produce more than him. Depressing.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

I’m not giving up on Diaz after one poor month when maybe he was trying to play through a nagging injury.

Villar - will likely be traded for a useful prospect or two
Ortiz - looking more like a bullpen arm/rotation depth
Carmona - bit of a project but I like his potential

Diaz - still likely to be a regular corner OF
Kremer - mid rotation potential
Bannon - most improved from last year, fringe 2B/3B regular
Pop - our best relief prospect
Valera - gone

Tate - looks like toast, maybe he can develop into a bullpen arm
Carroll - solid relief prospect
Rogers - not much here, spot starter/long relief

Phillips - solid relief prospect
Zimmerman - fringe SP, likely bullpen arm
Encarnacion - project, doubt he makes it to the show
Cumberland - could develop into an offense first backup C/1B

Not great but I still like the Machado return.

Nah, it will easily be Diaz.

It's very disappointing that the worst 3 month stretch of his career are the 3 months he's played at Bowie since we traded for him.

He raked at AA to finish '17 and up until the trade in '18. Has struggled since.

I’m keeping the faith.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

Activated from the IL, sent to A+ Frederick for what I assume is a brief rehab stint.

The new regime seems to like to start a player's rehab at a lower level.
