Weak year, IMO.

Three Billboards was great and I hope the snowflake blacklash doesn't prevent it from winning.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

I agree it was a pretty weak year. Especially at the top. A lot of good movies, not many great ones.

For the record my issues with Three Billboards are more from a film making perspective, and I still didn't hate it.

They probably could have just nominated five films. Some of those seem like throw ins because of star power (The Post, Phantom Thread) or the subject matter (Call me by your name, Shape of Water)

Hey Bob, you may wanna edit some of the spoilers in your post in case people haven't seen some films.

For example.....highlight to read....

"All the performances here are great but special shout out to Allison Williams for her portrayal of supportive girlfriend as well as one of the biggest villains of the year."

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

The Post was unbearable.

I figured the movie has been out for a year and it was very popular so that would be fine but I’m open to editing if I misjudged that.

If there were only 5 nominations I believe they would be:

Dunkirk
Get Out
Lady Bird
The Shape of Water
Three Billboards

The throw in were The Post and Darkest Hour IMO, the rest were deserving given then movie landscape last year.

Grinding Nemo (credit to twitter) wins.

Sam Rockwell had my favorite speech, love that guy.

Pretty boring show.

I can't believe The Shape of Water won best picture. Decent movie, but it's instantly one of the worst best pictures, ever.

I agree it was a boring show.

I disagree that Shape of Water is one of the worst. I’d say it’s a forgettable middle of the pack winner. Out of the 43 BP winners I’ve seen I have it ranked 28th.

I didn't bother watching for the first time in a while. (I've had enough of peoples "movements". I got enough of my own problems)

That said, I always go back and watch the highly acclaimed movies at some point. I even sat through La La Land, and it was ok. Gossling is awesome in about everything he does. But I'm not gonna watch a deaf mute fuck a fish/mer-man/sea creature thing. Not a chance. Ever. Even if Gossling was the sea creature.

Part of me wants to see it because the concept sounds so stupid...it sounds like an 80s B movie.

But yea, at the end of the day, i have no desire to see it.

Can you, or have you posted your list of 43?

I think someone had a good point, though I can't remember who said it.

I'd be shocked if any of these movies hold up five years from now, or are remembered 10 years from now...Except for "Get Out"

MER-MAN!

Sorry. Mer-Person.

Didn't mean to label mer-men and mermaids.

Dunkirk will. Get Out will. Like to think 3 billboards will. The rest, nah.
