ESPN: Prokhorov: Knicks are NYC's second team

http://espn.go.com/b...eam-in-new-york

"Ah, oh, Knicks. Yes, I've heard about this second team in New York."

Trying to drum up a rivalry!

The Nets played in New Jersey for 35 years before moving. They will make their regular-season debut as the Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 1 -- against the Knicks -- at the $1 billion Barclays Center.

I thought Jerry's World was expensive, but this might beat that since it's an arena. Wow!

He'd obviously need some strong, veteran assistants going straight from the hardwood to the bench. With it being a players league, I don't think this is the worst idea in the world. It's a very risky one though.

Poor Patrick Ewing.

I heard someone point out the other day that many coaches were former point guards...there are no ex centers.

Bill Laimbeer is a coach.

Not a head coach...no for men, at least.

Phil Jackson was a big man, and if you go to NBA reference his page says "Forward-Center" so thats kind of a blurry distinction. Same with Kevin McHale.

Tomjanovich too. Although I concede Rob's point. There aren't any left.

I don't really know why this is weird to me, but it is.

I wish him the best though.

Comparisons I've seen are Bill Russell: player-coach AND Mark Jackson, from the broadcast booth to calling the shots. As I said I think it will be crucial getting strong veteran assistant coaches.

In baseball in recent years you've had quite a few managers with little to no coaching experience, especially at the MLB level including Mike Matheny, Robin Ventura, and Walt Weiss. None of them went straight to managing after their playing days though.

I wonder if Kidd the coach will blow kisses to his wife whenever his team shoots a free throw?

1 Williams, Livingston

2 Johnson, Terry

3 Pierce, Kirilenko

4 Garnett, Evans, Plumlee

5 Lopez, Blatche

With all that depth, is the age going to be an issue? None of the really old guys have to play that many minutes.

A couple years ago, that's probably a championship starting 5. We'll see how it goes. If nothing else, they're another legit contender, which makes the East more interesting.
