Unless DOJ can somehow prove the NCAA was abetting all this, then they aren't going anywhere. Too much money being made for anyone to want such a drastic change. Sounds like the feds are only focused on the individuals involved.

I tend to agree, but I gotta think that there's going to be snitching, in order to pull other people in. I may be wrong, but...this seems so serious that people might want to give people away to make this as painless as possible.

Some are circulating Tom Crean's name around.

Would make sense. He followed the mess at IU and turned it into a (relative) success.

If the FBI is involved and brings in whatever penalties, does the NCAA also have to give penalties?

I would assume so but I just wonder if it becomes a federal issue, if that trumps the NCAA?

I'm sure the NCAA will enact its own penalties, just like they did to Penn St in the Sandusky matter, even though it was a criminal case. The feds aren't going to punish universities or athletic programs, just the individuals involved.

Agree with Mike.  NCAA's penalties will be a separate issue from federal criminal penalties.

Probably the usual: probation, postseason bans, scholarship reductions. The call for the "death penalty" gets tossed out there a lot, but I think it's unlikely we'll ever see something like that from the NCAA again. Just too much money involved/potentially lost.

Yea, I'd imagine so. You'll always have the alma mater advantage, but the money could be too much to turn down on this one given the circumstances. They may just go nuts to get someone worthy.. His wife is from Louisville I read as well.

Good luck!

CollegeBasketballTalk: If Louisville doesn’t get death penalty, no program ever will again

The argument is basically that Louisville is on probation from their last scandal, and has been for a total of six weeks, while some of the recorded statements from their assistant during the meetings that have been released reference the timeliness of the probation. So this is pretty much the scenario that the death penalty was made for.

Rick Pitino is claiming that Louisville broke both their own university policy and his contract by placing him on administrative leave today, and is threatening legal action.

He has dodged many scandals, all of which you could claim he should have been fired for.

The university stuck with him through that and because they don't here, he's pissed?  What a douche.

And let's be clear about something....when the feds have you, you are done.  Their success rate is extremely high.
