Looking at the mysterious timing of the Chiefs cut of Maclin, his history, and the real possibility as the Ravens meet with him today.

I think the Ravens clearly want to add him assuming he is healthy. The question is can they afford him.

They can cut about $2M by cutting Hurst and Jensen and having the 2 new guards they drafted be the back ups. Hurst should be cut anyway, even if they aren't adding anyone else. Close to $3M gained if they cut Buck Allen who was useless last year too.

They should be able to get Maclin at a small cap hit with a back loaded deal. And more money coming off the books next year would make his cap hit in 18' palletable.

But his injury history is concerning. Its a tough call. The money will have to be cheap as he's not a playmaker. More of a chain mover. Experienced in the system is a plus. Probably better than Aiken was, but behind Wallace on this team.

Wallace was 2/$11.5M. Maclin should fetch a little less than that which will make his cap hit in the $2.5-$3M range this year.

They aren't cutting Jensen. He might start and is otherwise still a solid backup

I agree with Branden that there is no way they cut Jensen. Hurst should be cut imo, but for whatever reason they keep him around. He's the TJ McFarland of the Ravens. Also remember with Rule of 51, any cuts are going to be about 500K less off of the cap than their base salary.

I have no doubt they could offer something in the $5-6M/year range, but Maclin could potentially command more than that. He could also want a 1 year deal which makes adding him more tricky as you obviously can't push cap into the next season.

I don't think Jensen is any good at all. But thats another story.

I don't think Jensen is a great player, but he is a fine backup. Rather not have him start obviously. When he played last year he wasnt a problem. It was the back-up tackles that sucked.

I'll say this, for the price I beleive this will be looked at of THE sign of the offseason.  I think this goes down as a steal.

I am pretty sure Shack is thinking of PBR.
