My ranking of the best homegrown players for the starting rotation and eight defensive positions.

Fun read Zach.

Who would you have as the DH? Since most home grown players would not go right into a DH capacity, I think you would have to take the best position player not in the existing lineup. I'm thinking Machado.

Really good list and Read Zach.

Pappas was a good call----Mike Boddicker real close though.

In addition to all the wins-Milt got us Frank, so he gets the spot.

Really good read and a good list.

Boog certainly a fair choice.  Him being the MVP in '70 often goes overlooked.

Manny is better than Brooks was...but Brooks had the longevity of greatness, so I can see going with him here.

Manny at DH makes sense though.

As far as a DH, I'd probably take Manny Machado, but it's a close choice between him and Boog Powell.

Mike Boddicker was on my shortlist for the rotation. Dennis Martinez also got very careful consideration.

If we're gonna name guys to be the best-O ever at positions they never-ever had, why don't we just name Paul Blair as the best ever RF'er?

Because as the article said, Blair wouldn't qualify as he got his start in the Mets organization.

And discussing using Machado or Powell at DH actually makes sense here, given the criteria... no?

The point was not Blair... the point was putting guys in roles they never-ever played...

Small potatoes, I know... but still...
