They also hired Mike Lombardi (NFL Network) as their VP of Player Personnel.

I saw Hensley crush that hire:

This is like the Orioles hiring (well, re-hiring) Jim Duquette instead of Dan.

Lombardi is always great on Simmons' podcast, he seems to know his stuff. I'm sure that doesn't mean much, but he's definitely knowledgable, and has Cleveland experience.

It's almost getting to the point where I truly feel sorry for Browns fans. Almost.

A mighty Southern family has fallen. The Haslams, who have owned the Pilot Flying J gas station empire since Jim Haslam II opened the first Pilot shop in 1958, are under investigation by the FBI for fraud.

Jimmy Haslam III, the current CEO of the company and an owner of the Cleveland Browns (His brother Bill is the Republican governor of Tennessee.) has said he would cooperate with the investigation after an affidavit filed by FBI agent Robert H. Root was unsealed on Thursday, April 18 and the FBI and IRS raided Pilot Flying J's Knoxville, Tenn. headquarters on April 15 and 16. The Haslam family was not available to comment before the story went to press.

Interesting... I just assumed they'd stick with Weeden, at least initially.

Seriously, did the NFL just rubber-stamp this guy's purchase of the Browns because he was already part owner of the Steelers, and they didn't figure they needed to do any more digging?

Trouble never seems to end for Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam

Nearly every week there is a something in the news that makes me wonder how Jimmy Haslam will be able to be the long-term owner of the Browns.

The latest is a report in the Wall Street Journal that Haslam's Pilot Flying J has about $4 billion in debt and its credit rating has been "downgraded."

Most Browns fans know about the FBI's investigation into Pilot Flying J for possible fraud. Haslam has denied any knowledge of the questionable business dealings. But there are major problems with how Haslam's company did business.

I legitimately feel bad for Browns fans right now. Seriously. Just when you think it can't get any worse for them, it just continually does.

Do they have to approve minority owners? I would think so, or atleast investigate them. But yes, I think the NFL feels better to have an owner come within than someone they don't know much about.

Even as a huge sports fans, I find these sports-theme funerals and death customs a bit much. The ESPN thing on it was interesting though.

I'm sure they do too. Not sure how long Haslam owned a share of Pittsburgh, but it could have been before there was any hint of these issues he has. IIRC he may have bought part of the franchise when the other Rooney brothers had to sell their shares because they were going to have some involvement in casinos when Pennsylvania legalized them, which has been a few years.
