76 dead, although five on the flight reportedly survived, including the two goalkeepers.

They are a traditionally lower-division club that had been promoted to Brazil's first division a couple seasons ago and was slowly improving. They were on their way to play in the Copa Sudamericana final against a club from Medellin. The charter plane reportedly carried both the Brazilian and Argentine national teams in the recent past.

Soccer has had more than its share of these awful events. Prayers to all the families involved. They have been somewhat of a cinderella story in Brazil.....so sad.

Colombian authorities are giving the official numbers as 77 on board, with 71 dead.

The Colombian club Chapaconese was on their way to play asked that the Copa Sudamericana be awarded to them, and the other clubs in Brazil's Serie A are asking that the club be made relegation-proof for at least three years and are offering the club fee-free transfers.

In a Copa Libertadores match on Wednesday, supporters of Uruguayan club Nacional taunted Chapecoense, on the latter's home ground, with gestures alluding to the 2016 plane crash that killed 19 players and staff from the Brazilian side.
