Central Florida received a one-year bowl ban and a one-year men's basketball tournament ban from the NCAA due to recruiting violations in the two high-major programs, a source told ESPN.com Tuesday morning.

The NCAA committee on infractions had called an 11 a.m. news conference to announce the findings.

A Conference USA official told ESPN.com Monday that the Knights would be prohibited from playing in the Conference USA tournament in Tulsa if they had received a postseason ban. That means the Knights have played their last postseason tournament as a member of CUSA since they are leaving for the Big East in 2013-14.

I find it interesting that they said "sure, we'll accept the postseason ban in basketball (a sport for which our team sucks), but we'll appeal the postseason ban in football (which means if we lose the appeal, we won't be eligible our first year in the Big East)."

Not really the smartest strategy, IMO.

Don't know much about UCF, but maybe they expect to have a pretty good team this season, while 2013 projects as more of a rebuilding year.
