I know this is all opinion, but can you explain why you think Ninja Turtles is a better film than Godfather 2?

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

I'd say, since 1996, my top 5 would include Almost Famous, There Will Be Blood, Mad Max:  Fury Road and Hell or High Water (which I now think is the best film of this decade so far). The fifth one is tougher.  American Beauty perhaps?  As Good as it Gets?

Tough list to create.

It's not. But I like it better. Like I said in the article I have a hard time/don't feel qualified to distinguish between favorite and best so I just tend to go with favorite.

I couldn't and wouldn't argue with someone that TMNT is better. Anything in my top 100 I love. Its all semantics.

From that list Django probably gets bumped for Hell or High Water and/or Mad Max.  Forgetting Mad Max on that thread was a brain fart.

Fair enough.

So much about art is subjective, appreciate you doing this.

Always enjoyed The Assassination of Jesse James.......

Casey Affleck is so good in that one.

2007 was an amazing year for movies.

I actually thought you put TMNT in there just to see if anyone was actually paying attention to the list. It definitely stands out as an oddball choice amongst those other mostly great movies. But hey to each his own. Also, about Gremlins. One of my favorites growing up. But I caught it about six months or so ago and watched the first hour. It's really bad. Almost ruined the nostalgia for me. I couldn't believe what I was watching!

I know Bob and I have agreed on this multiple times so I'll just back him up once more...

Even without the nostalgia, TMNT is a great movie.  It has a good plot, fantastic character development, and feels about as real as a movie can feel considering it's about giant talking turtles.  Its action scenes actually help develop each of these things rather than just being there to look cool, and it has some good if cheesy humor.

It's not a piece of cinema like some of the other classics, but it's a fun very well done movie.

Absolutely! It also came out in the perfect time for practical effects. Sure you can see the weapons bend a couple times but it lends weight to making them believable characters. It was also the first movie I saw in theaters (I'm told) and I was basically raised on it. But even now I can watch it and like it just as much. The sequels not so much... Secret of the Ooze is still cartoony fun but it doesn't hold up in the same way.

As for Gremlins I actually just re-watched a year or two ago and still enjoyed it. Although the nostalgia was admittedly working overtime. I might enjoy Gremlins 2 more now at this point so that might need to be adjusted for sure. Its been awhile since I revised that list.

Disagree on X-Men 2. Good superhero movie, nowhere near being a top 20 movie of last 20 years. Especially not better than The Dark Knight.

I dig nostalgia, I've watched D2 maybe more than any other movie, but TMNT? Consider me perplexed here too.

I haven't seen Tree of Life yet, I'll add it to my short list.

I've had a few gripes with this list (and your favorite movies in general) but you nailed it with There Will Be Blood.

Almost Famous is the only movie I've liked more than that since the turn of the century.

Well done.

Enjoyed seeing your choices but you could have named it best movies of last ten years. A lot of more recent films (and very recent films) on a list like that but to each his own.
