Hello all,

Know we just had a vote on the merits of keeping the Politics / Social issues forum...   my intent was to let the majority rule, and evaluate again after a few months.

With apologies to those who enjoyed it, I've had a change of heart and have deleted that section.

Know many of you won't be pleased, and I'm sorry about that.  I'm not going against majority opinion lightly.

That said, I have to do what I think is in the best interest of the site... and without getting into specifics, this is the right decision.

We revert back to our previous rules and mission..   we're a sports board, with lighter OT topics as well. Come here for a diversion from the bigger issues of life.  Have those discussions elsewhere, and avoid having them here.

Thanks,
Chris

Disappointing.

You're kidding.

Can understand the sentiment....

You aren't aware of what led to the change in my decision making.

I'm not going to get into that, so as that leaves you in the dark... my apologies.

That said, I don't make any decisions lightly. Especially when they go against what the current majority of the board wants.... or when it could even be argued there is some self-benefit to keeping it.

I'm doing what is right for the site, based on the information I have.

If someone wants to start a political blog...  and use our contacts here to invite people... you probably will have success with that.

I think we need to have a purge once a year where we can talk politics for like a week or something.

I thought it was going ok, although I hadn't been through most of the threads. But, it's an area prone to a lot of dynamite. I've lost a few friends this political season thru Facebook due to people not respecting one another's point of view. I've been called a traitor, my wife has been called stupid ... it's just been a mess.

But I respect the decision. It's Stoner's board, and he has to do the best for it's continued existence.

Sorry to hear that, but the bottom line is you didn't lose anything close to a friend.

Starting somewhere around December 23 with an airing of grievances?

Disappointed too.  I understand your decision and how it may not be good for advertising and keeping the board running.  It was keeping me coming back and think it proved your short wave theory wrong as that was the number 1 most posted in besides game threads.  It is your baby though.  I'll still be around though.

Short wave wasn't wrong. Expected a bump... got a bump.

Think it could be sustained a bit as well... that's where I was wrong.

Maybe. Do understand the sentiment.

Ultimately I have to do what I think is right for the site.

Using hindsight, you were never going to keep it but wanted to experiment with it. I don't like putting everything I believe out there in that context. But yes, do what you gotta do of course.

Meh. I never wanted it, but once here, I was ambivalent about it.  Still wasn't my preference, but generally thought it was working well enough. As of this morning my plan was to keep it at-least for another month or two and see where we were.  Information I had changed... I acted accordingly.

Those of you who like talking politics...  start a site. You know who here liked participating. Reach out to them.  Would probably be successful, and might even join myself.

Why all the secrecy?  You say your intention was to go by the vote. (I believe you.)

But you also say that some Powerful Mystery Event occurred that caused you to very abruptly devalue the vote.  (I believe you about that to.)

So, why is the Powerful Mystery Event such a big friggin' secret?   You seem to respect people here enough to tell the truth about the sequence of events... but not enough to tell the truth about what the Powerful Mystery Event was?

WTF is that about?   Why not just tell the truth about that too?
