Kevin Stallings from Vanderbilt to Pittsburgh

6 year deal

Seems like an uninspiring hire.

Just read the Phoenix Suns are looking at Jay Wright. What a job opening that would be at Nova.

I don't think Wright leaves, but he is the hot commodity right now.

Sounds like Josh Pastner is going to Georgia Tech, which I think is only a lateral move, if that.

Interesting hire by Mike Bobinski (Tech AD), who has usually hired from within or young, up-and-coming coaches.

I think GT is a better job than Memphis.  Good hire, IMO.

Memphis can (and should) make the tournament on an annual basis. The AAC is good, not great, and should be dominated by the Memphis, UConn and Cincinnati year in and year out.

Much more competition in the ACC for Ga Tech.

Pastner can certainly recruit, so he should be fine in Atlanta, I just question his actual coaching abilities. Memphis fans are already exuberant if he winds up accepting the Yellow Jackets gig.

Don't forget about SMU... they've been relevant for a few years now under Larry Brown.

Pastner is a great hire by GaTech... agree with your analysis though Chris.

True about SMU, just who knows what back-room dealings are going on there on a yearly basis.

I will say I think this is good for Pastner on a personal level. As I said above, his time in Memphis was growing stale so I think it's beneficial for both parties to go their separate ways.

I was astonished to find out he was coaching Texas Tech when they made the tourney this year.

If he takes Memphis to the dance, that'll be what his 6th team?

He's like a non-sleazy Larry Brown.

Very impressive...

Tulsa, Georgia, Kentucky, Minnesota, Texas Tech.

Strong!

Speaking of Texas Tech, new UNLV coach Chris Beard (literally hired last week) might be interested in going to Lubbock, where he was once an assistant.

Weird.

Apparently his daughters live near Lubbock as well.

What a trainwreck of an offseason for UNLV.

Well, he took the Texas Tech job.

Dick move or just doing what's best for him and his family?

Or both?

He was an assistant coach at TTU for 8 years with Bobby Knight and his daughters (I think 3 under the age of 16) live within 2 hours.

I think it's a smart move for him.

Sucks for UNLV, who has had really bad luck/planning with the coach search this season.

That's insane. (Not that it is or isn't a smart move for him... the circumstance.)

Taking a job... being announced on the 28th.... doing the press conference... and immediately rolling out?

Wow.

People give their word to a university, get up in a press conference and pronounce excitement over getting the job, then leave a week later.

So much  for Iron clad contracts.

Didn't Bobby Cremmins do something similar.

Yes, at South Carolina, his alma mater
