Summer travels are finished, and time to power through the conference previews before kickoff in a couple weeks. Here's the Big 12.

Double-whammy for FSU at QB since I wrote the preview. Senior Sean Maguire is out a month with a broken foot, and now freshman Malik Henry is suspended indefinitely for violating team rules. Deondre Francois was the expected starter all along, but depth could be a serious issue now for them, at least to start the season.

I'll be at the Maryland-Howard game, so I'll miss the Oklahoma-Houston game, but definitely looking forward to LSU-Wisconsin at Lambeau. Georgia-UNC could be interesting. Georgia's first year under Kirby Smart, both teams potentially starting highly-touted young QBs (Trubisky won the UNC job, Eason may win the UGA job). Then you've got USC-Alabama to end the night, Lane Kiffin facing his former team.

But the Ole Miss-FSU game on Monday is what I'm most looking forward to. How good can Ole Miss be in Chad Kelly's last year? And how does Deondre Francois handle the big stage as a freshman starting QB for the 'Noles? Jameis Winston was in the exact same situation in 2013 (but against a worse opponent in Pittsburgh) and shone.

So good to have college football back (almost). My favorite sport of all time, doesn't get any better than this.

College Football is 2 behind Baseball for me. College Basketball a close 3... very close. Anywho, can't wait... awesome that we're just a couple weeks away. Or a week from Thursday.

Me too....

College Basketball a close 3...

I used to care a lot about college b-ball... but now I don't... not sure why... I never decided not to, it just kinda gradually happened... I suspect it's the 1-and-done thing...

The quality of play has noticeably declined over the years, which has had the same effect for me. Outside of anything MD-related, I just don't follow it much anymore. The 1-and-done has something to do with the poorer play, but I think there are other factors too.

For me, it was the loss of watching guys grow from freshmen into seniors... getting a sense of the team as a whole... getting the same sense of the guys on the other conference teams who they used to play twice per year every year, plus in the tourney.

Between the 1-and-done's and the bigger conference (which kills the idea of everybody playing everybody twice), I just quit having any good sense of who anybody is, who they used to be, and who I think they will be...  instead, it mainly seems like a revolving door of good players just briefly passing through, and that just doesn't interest me nearly as much...
