Seems like a guy that has those scorching highs.

MASN: Gary Kendall talks Triple-A prospects
https://www.masnspor...ther-notes.html

“There are nights that it’s a learning experience, but also nights that he looks like the best player on the field. He’s playing primarily first base and a few games in the outfield and at third. He’s taken a little bit to left field. He hasn’t been challenged yet in the gaps into left-center field. But he does have an assist from the left field corner, a strong accurate throw. His arm plays a little better out there. This is something the organization wants to take a look at and he’s on board with it. He’s worked hard playing a lot of balls off the bat out there.

“This gives us another thing to look at with a guy that can really swing the bat. It gives Baltimore more options and that is what we are trying to provide.”

.320 OBP with a .297 AVG isn’t very good.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

He is also playing in an awful hitters park.

AAA numbers are way up this year.

And this doesn’t really matter anyway..lack of walks doesn’t really matter for ballparks.

Why waste his service time?

You could say that about him next year too.

We'll likely lose 90-100 games next year. Why waste it then?

Just go work on an extension through FA 1 & 2.

The service time games should be worked on in the next CBA.

(In Mountcastle's case, I'm sure they still want him working on things. Which is fine.)

I don’t want to extend him early. I don’t think he’s a key long term piece personally but the upside is there. I wouldn’t want to lock into that right off the bat.

Because he will be ready next year. Right now, he still doesn’t have a position. Let him continue to work on his defense in AAA and in the offseason and see where you are in ST. If he still sucks defensively, there is probably little
hope for him there and you can just let him be the DH.

I’m guessing September call up or outside chance of August if he continues to rake and Mancini is traded.

My guess is he doesn't see the majors this year.  I think Elias will play the clock.

I'd force him to start drawing some walks before calling him up.  Tell him to focus on that for a while.  I would've made that request much earlier in the year, so who knows how that would have gone.

Some guys just don't walk. Adam Jones comes to mind. Its good to try and get a guy to not swing at pitches out of the strike zone but at some point you have to let the guy be who he is.

Does Mountcastle not walk because he swings at too many bad pitches or because he puts the ball in play all the time? Certainly his 7-1 K/BB ratio is bad. But he is hitting over .300.

He has a high MiL BABiP. Likely means it will be high in the majors but probably not at the level it is in the minors.

He is going to have to walk some.

But sure, he could be a great contact hitter who just doesn’t walk a lot.

He has a great hit tool and is developing power (I remember he put on X pounds of muscle in the off-season), doubt he’ll ever have a patient approach. But I’m interested to see how free swinging he is. Maybe he’s just good at hitting pitches that are balls but not far off the plate or maybe he swings at every ball in the dirt.
