Yeah, plus he could just be settling in. Not that 60 PAs are more indicative than 300+ PAs, but sometimes development isn't linear or obvious.

Has anyone seen him in Frederick? Is he starting to address any of the issues regarding his crouch and hand load that seemed to be out of whack. That's probably more telling than anything else.

Good to hear on Stewart. Man he is a big boy. Maybe they can get him to hit for more power at some point.

The dude was only drafted last June. I'm not going to say he's near top prospect level or that he'll ever amount to much of anything, but it's probably too early to call him a bust after a year in pro ball. Let's sit back and see what happens.

An advanced college bat shouldn't look like complete dogshit vs 18-20 year olds.

The fact that he looked so bad is a huge cause for concern.

It doesn't mean he can never be good but what it does mean is that he has a huge adjustment to make and that's not an easy thing to do.

Some guys may also take longer to just adjust to the 'lifestyle' of minor league ball too.

Though any player can put 16 games together where he has a 900 OPS. Now can he do it for 50 games? I'd be willing to write off the speed bump to start if that's the case.

I get that its really disappointing to take a guy in Round 1 that needs to rework his swing to be successful, but patience is required here.  The muscle memory to change something like that has got to take a really long time.  Really hoping he's figured something out with it lately.

Since July 12 he's got a 727 OPS. 260/367/360. 14 - 9 K/BB ratio over 60 PA's. My feeling: meh...

Nice to see the walks. But sheesh, if you're able to be that selective, hard to understand how at least at these levels he's not waiting on some pitches and really going after them. Oddly, he does have 2 triples in there too.

Jinx your posts on Akin and Dietz made me want to check in on him too. I remember he started with a 900 OPS down there, but looks like he's just reverted to what he showed before.

Few more weeks. Would be nice to see a flurry, vs. a slump to end the year.

I wonder if they are going to make him totally retool the swing this year. Seems like a bad fit for the Orioles system, have a guy that either needs rebuilt or allowed to do his own thing that he does well to develop.

I just don't feel like we get many stories like this one that work out for us...

Over his last 17 games he's got an OPS of 930 with a 328 BA some of that driven by a very hot bat over the last 7.

835 OPS over 189 PA's isn't going to send anyone into a tizzy, but it's certainly a surprise to me.

Still not much power.  Hitting for high average and has shown really good ability to draw walks just about everywhere.  But a 22 y/o at A+ who doesn't really carry a glove needs to be hitting over 300 (or ISO-ing over 200 if he's gonna carry a lower AVG).  Been close to that since July, hopefully he can finish strong and then pick up there to begin next year in Bowie and maybe get himself back on the prospect map.

Over the last 18 games showing a 197 ISO compared to 143 over the previous 28 games. So maybe some improvement even in slugging.

Though both sample sizes are pretty meaningless. Hopefully it means over the past week and a half he's been hitting the ball harder in general and not getting lucky down the line or benefiting from some bad defense and credited with xbh's.

Whatever...its better.  If he fell on his face in Frederick, it would basically be bust time.

He has shown improvement, so he has more time.

He needs to go to the AFL.

Yep, exactly. Better than the alternative. It's something to build from.  Agree about the AFL as well.

Good call on AFL.  He does seem like the obvious candidate for our one below-AA selection.
