It's a no brainer move for Smart.

Given the resources at Texas, it's a top 15 job in the country.

Saw the same thing Mike.

Apparently, the Texas job is one of the few he would have left for.

Great hire by Texas.

I think I'm alone on this, and I know Texas has the resources, but I just don't, and have never seen Texas as a great Basketball job.

Hopefully I'm wrong as I like shaka Smart quite a bit.

Texas is an incredible job. They have all the resources that any of the big time basketball schools have (money, great location, school and campus, near a basketball hotbed, etc etc) and almost zero pressure because everyone in the damn state cares about football. Rick Barnes was there seemingly forever and he was, at best, an above average coach.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

All true, but they were nothing before Barnes, besides the 40s and 50s, and the same things applied.

We'll see. Maybe it'll turn out that Barnes was actually underrated this whole time.

Or maybe i'm an idiot.

It can be a great job and you don't have the pressure that comes with football.

If they were just happy getting to the Tourney, they would've kept Barnes. Maybe they were just forcing his hand with the whole, he needed to make changes thing. Nearly two decades is a very long time in this profession at this point as we know, change isn't always such a bad thing.

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere here but there's a new AD at Texas, so that makes these changes a bit easier since he doesn't have the same loyalty as the one who hired Barnes (and Mack Brown).

Everybody was "nothing" until they got that one coach that turned the program into a legend.

UCLA before Wooden? Kentucky before Rupp? Louisville before Crum? Georgetown before Thompson?

If Smart is that guy for Texas, it doesn't matter what came before.

All valid retorts, I'm just not as crazy about the move as everyone else seems to be.

so far, leaving VCU didn't work out for Capel or Grant...both went to "Football schools" who had moderate success in Basketball over the years.

We'll see.

Well, Florida was never really a great job until Donovan got there.

Shaka can make that program elite IMO.

They don't coach as well as Shaka does though.

Plus, Bama is terrible at bball and its not like there is a hot bed of basketball talent down there either.

Alabama had a great program under Wimp Sanderson..In fact, at one time they were second in NBA players...Granted, I'm going back 15-20 years, but they had a really nice program for a while.

Shaka Smart has no idea what he's getting into at Texas

A lot of this is definitely Canzano grinding the axe. But the incidents he cites are true, and paint a poor picture of Patterson as someone to work for.

Thunder fired Brooks, which could cause a pretty big chain reaction if they hire from the college ranks.

Like most teams, I think they will wait to see how the Thibs situation resolves.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

Rumors are he and the GM do not see eye to eye. If he gets canned I want the Wiz to drive Wittman to Dulles.
