So I know I'm late with this, this year. Today or tomorrow I will try to update.

Some news today:
Tennessee has fired Tyndall.

St. John's has fired Steve Lavin. Storm will look at Hurley and Masiello says Goodman.

Reports are saying Texas will not bring back Rick Barnes.

Texas goes after Marshall or Jacobson?

Wow, this is fun.

St John's isn't a great job, even being in NYC.

If I'm Hurley, I don't take St John's or DePaul.

Texas' job should be one you want.  Wonder if someone like Shaka Smart would leave for that?

ESPN is saying the Tennessee job is Barnes' if he wants it, and that St. John's is going after Chris Mullin (a stunner right there, I'll tell you...).

I would have guessed Mark Jackson before Mullin..

I'm not so sure the Texas job is as great as we think.

They were never a Hoops powerhouse..Give Barnes some credit for that. (as much as I dogged him for years)

My dad was talking to me earlier about how both schools will regret these moves, especially Texas.

The things Texas have going for it are primacy in a state with huge numbers of athletes (though obviously less than in football) and an athletic department willing to put the resources into the program, even if men's basketball is likely the fourth-most-popular sport on campus. They probably can't be Kentucky, but could be Florida with the right coach.

Texas will get a great hire. That's a dream job. Top notch resources and little pressure because the primary concern is the football team.

Marshall staying at Wichita State... was offered more to go to Alabama. Seems like a good decision... got a raise, and long-term security with the Shockers.

Bowling Green fired Chris Jans for cause today after an incident in a local bar, witnessed and partly taped by an alumnus/parent of a current student.

Damn. Great hire for Texas obviously. That's a scary program now.

So a few weeks back I saw a segment about why Shaka Smart stays at VCU when he could have probably any job he wants. Said his father left him as a child. Most of the VCU players also grew up without fathers and look to him as a father figure. They recruit kids from broken homes because Shaka can relate to that and theres a special connection there. So he never wanted to leave VCU because he didnt want to walk out on "his kids" like his father and their fathers have.

Obvious that the kids were distraught leaving the meeting. Can't fault the man for moving up in the world, but dont make such bold statements about why you stay....then leave. You can just say, we really like it here.

I'm not going to fault him too much here for leaving at all. He's turned down job after job. Should he have to stay loyal to VCU for whatever reason in perpetuity?

Unless he gets back to atleast the 2nd weekend, let alone Final Four, his stock isn't exactly going to go up.

Also, one more thing, is he allowed to change his mind? I doubt this was an easy decision for him. I think you see this pattern with a bunch of coaches at mid-majors -- Jim Larranaga, Chris Peterson to name a few -- they have unprecedented success at their school, stay a few years despite some intriguing offers then leave probably in part because their stock is going to go lower if they stay at that said institution.

Hes definitely allowed to change his mind. Just feels like poor timing for that ESPN segment to air. I belive it was during their Saturday morning pregame show in the last week of the regular season. Just so adamant about not wanting to be the secind man to walk out on these kids in their lives. Its the nature of the business though. The best way to sum up my feeling are simply "never say never".
