He gained many millions with the '15 2nd half. If he puts up .787 for the whole year he might not get half of what he ultimately received in FA

Agree with that.  However on the flip side, if he had a 900 OPS in 2014 instead of 700, then he probably would have gotten $250M+.

He just needs to swing. Most of his K's this year have been looking this year. It's almost like he's afraid to swing the bat.

He should really just try to bunt down the 3B line in every at bat, or at least when there's nobody on base.

I think we all pretty much agree that Davis is a hard worker and knows is performance has to get better. And it sounds like he is doing all he can to get there. Whether or not his approach is really improved remains to be seen but we sure need him.

Would it be possible to trade Chris Davis if he shows up this season looking like the best version of himself? What if he bashes 25 homers by the break with a .260+ BA and a .900+ OPS?  Could that entice a team to consider dealing for him or are we stuck with whatever he gives us for the next few years?

If he's hitting....why wouldn't you want him?

--------------

Sucks that the last 2 years are what they are, but he's not holding anything or anyone back.  He brings a number of things to the game and we need players that want to be here and perform.

My guess is he's just in his own way and needs to get out of his own head....although this sort of happens to a lot of Boras clients when they start these deals....but no excuses.  Get it done.

He needs to just go up there and hit the ball hard.  No defense for the bomb.  See the ball and drive it.

We should be moving forward in a rebuilding phase, and guys 30+ will not be a part of our next winning team, so why would we keep him if blessed with an opportunity to remove this horrid, albatross of a contract?  Mancini back to his natural position at 1B would be preferable.

Same reason you trade the NL MVP after he mashes damn near 60 HRs.

That contract sucks.

Why do you have to move into a rebuilding phase?  You want to lose for how many years to not improve your opportunity to win any more than you could today.

What the Marlins are doing is stupid.  Everyone thinks rebuilding is cool.  It's not.

...and you're only paying Davis 17M per.  You'd likely have to eat the deferred money regardless....so why not just use him especially if he's hitting.
