You have to tender him a contract.

But yea, just an incredibly stupid organization. They took an extremely valuable asset and turned it into a turd.

Can say it was the wrong decision to not trade him before '17, but I think you take it too far saying it was stupid not to.

I say that as someone who also thought and wrote there was good reason to trade him....   but there was plenty of logic in bringing him back for this year as well.

Unfortunately what could have happened, has occurred.

He can still be back next year, still has the chance to perform (and should be expected to imo)...and could be traded next year, albeit for less than he would have brought back last Winter.

You can blast them for not taking the best deal at the deadline. Last off season the value was at its peak but you're expecting to contend. Trading away an elite arm is the complete opposite of what contenders are trying to do.

You can contend without him.

It wouldn't have been difficult to do so.

You trade a guy a year too early, not a year too late.

You had a shit farm system and you had one player that could have changed that. Not to mention, he likely would have brought you at least one guy who is helping you this year, maybe even in the rotation.

You also had money freed up to go after Holland or another reliever.

It's completely wrong to say if you trade him, you can't contend or that you are forfeiting the season.

You also had a deep pen that was already here.

It was and is an awful decision from a team with a long line of awful decisions...and that one is right at the top.

Absolutely should have traded him at the deadline for the best package available. Now we've got to spend around $15 million on a player who after being banged up is no sure thing next year. Way to go O's.

He probably wouldn't sign it but if I were the Os, I would offer him a 2/25 deal.

See if he can build up his value next year and if he gets back to where he was, his value would be very high again.

If not, you are overpaying him but it's a better gamble than most of the shit they spend their money on.

At least we didn't extend him for 8 years and 80 million dollars.

The Astro's are probably wishing the trade went down and a helathy Zach was in their pen.

Zach Britton will throw off a half mound tomorrow in Balt. First time up on a mound since he started rehabbing.

Britton threw 20 pitches off half mound. All fastballs. Felt great. PFPs tomorrow. That’s the biggie #orioles

Craig Gentry will step into the cage vs. Britton. Observers include Buck, team orthopedist Dr. Michael Jacobs, head athletic trainer Brian Ebel, bench coach John Russell, bullpen coach Alan Mills, special assignment pitching instructor Ramon Martinez #orioles

Odds that Gentry smacks a liner off of Britton's head?

Great. Invite scouts from other teams to come watch him and let the bidding begin.

O's plan for Zach Britton is for him to join Norfolk on the 30th.
